And here it is, proof as if it was needed that the Hive UK Northern meet up did in fact take place. Oh no - wait that’s just me on my own fiddling with computers setting up a rolling display of one of my Hive Witnesses Hived nodes processing transactions and producing blocks when called. And my full API node Hived processing blocks and broadcasting transaction information when requested. Finally of course one of my Hive-Engine Witnesses processing transactions and confirming blocks. The back end of the blockchain is not something everyone get’s to see, and it’s easy to forget that every post, comment, upvote, transfer etc are processed in blocks by servers around the world including mine.
So it turns out absolutely nobody took photos at the meet up, to be fair my excuse was I had to meet and greet everyone coming in, make them coffee, introduce them to everyone else, make more coffee, keep offering the delicious food spread to everyone and then roast coffee so they could all take home a bag. Plus I had to talk about Hive as well - doing all that meant taking photos was far from my mind…
But also I do have the odd security camera around, so I did manage to pull some footage off that - Hive Users Assembled.
Thanks to it being distant and grainy I don’t feel I have to ask everyones permission to display their person - after all it could be anyone. And yes it does look a bit like an AA meeting, my name is Robert and I am addicted to Coffee…
So first to arrive was @shanibeer , giving time for a chat and to allow her to do a post on Hive - which did feature some photos of coffee sacks, coffee roasters and my foot!
Next up @onw and guest, straight into interesting discussions on @risingstargame and @splinterlands
Then @shmoogleosukami and guest, as he also runs a Hive Witness and full API Node we got to talk shop about servers and code - turns out we both have a bug with Hivemind where the sync crashes at massive block sync, which was reassuring I thought it was me doing it wrong - even after wiping the server and starting from scratch it still did it. Anyway it seems there is a fix to the random issue in a new update of the code so that’s to wait for. My full API node actually works - it just never reaches complete time - get’s close crashes and then I set it to auto restart so it catches up gain.
Finally @hoosie arrived, a new face to me in person and on Hive. It turned out he joined Hive after finding @risingstargame and wanting to play it - but as it requires a Hive account to play - he had to create a Hive account - and then discovered the broader spread of Hive and what you can do. This has lead him to get involved with posting and commenting, and to build up his staked Hive. That’s a great bit of onboarding by @risingstargame - not just bringing in new people but also people who are interested enough to invest in staked Hive.
Hive Game Incubator
Further discussions with @hoosie during the day lead to an idea he had based around his experience going Hive through @risingstargame . This idea is a game Incubator - basically a team with a full framework to quickly convert game ideas into Hive connected experiences. This makes a lot of sense - while many people might have game ideas, or even existing games running off server databases - being able to integrate them with Hive easily could massively increase the amount of games we have connected to Hive.
As Hive already has the coders experienced enough to produce a log into Hive connection for a website, and to perform transactions and store data for progress and rewards from websites - make a set framework that can be deployed to anyone’s idea should be relatively simple and would take away what must be the main stumbling block for building a game on Hive - how do I create the code to actually connect my game to Hive? Sure they could read up and learn how to do it - but why relearn what already exists in multiple people. The incubator idea would bring together coders who could supply the framework, and also ensure they get remunerated for their contribution. Hopefully already I have connected @hoosie with Hive dev’s to expand his idea and maybe in 2024 we will see it develop further.
Hive for writers with locked content
Later in the day @onw came up with what I think is another killer idea for Hive, he suggested we need to enable writers to get better rewards for their work to encourage them to post on Hive. His basis is while writing something like a short story can entail months or even years of work, posting it on Hive makes it directly accessible to anyone - without even paying for it. Sure the poster will get rewards for upvotes, which for excellent work could be very high if it goes viral - realistically it might not cover a fraction of the hours spent working on the content.

To counter this he suggested there should be a way to make only part of a post visible - a taster if you like of the story ahead. To unlock the full content the potential reader would have to unlock the content by issuing an upvote of a minimum value at the writers discression - that is it could be set when the post is created - let’s say 0.6 vote value for example. So the Voter needs to be able to issue an upvote of at least that to view the content.
This would ensure the writer receives better value for their work, and the content would only be visible to those with sufficient upvote - so the masses can not see the work for free. The 7 day vote limit might be a potential issue, although realistically the writer could re-post the story in the future for more people to upvote and read.
I suggested this could work via a separate condenser instance on a sub domain like hive.read - that is coded to provide the specific content locking based on vote. A very specific tag could also be automatically added when posting with this condenser that blocks the post appearing on general condensers like hive.blog or peakd
To me this is a win win idea for Hive, potentially brining great written content to Hive, and encouraging more people to stake Hive - because the need to issue an upvote of a certain value will encourage people who wish to see the work to purchase and stake Hive to reach the vote level to read a story they interested in.
I’d love to hear thoughts and discussion on this in the comments, both good and bad along with feasibility of building the code - hopefully if the right people get to hear about it maybe this could be another big boost for Hive in 2024. Oh and @onw said it wanted to make sure everyone know’s it’s his idea !
Overall I think everyone had a great day, they certainly got good coffee and a tasty buffet lunch - but of course the real bonus for us all is getting to meet in person and talk about Hive.

Thanks for a grand day out, @c0ff33a!
I'm looking forward to next year, and a chance to buy a few more bags of your delicious coffee.
As for my idea, it had already been erased from my mind after several nights of sleep, thanks for reminding me.
The idea was to provide a platform for writers to publish stories without the prohibitive cost of a publisher holding them back.
An opportunity that allows a budding or established author to self-publish on Hive enabling them to align the price point of their content with that of a book bought in a store.
Wouldn't it be good to see Hive launch the next Feist, Rowling, or Martin.
I also think that @risingstargame could be cloned by @jux to appeal to a Baseball, Golf or Formula 1 enthusiast if @jux was looking to diversify his excellent game.
Maybe franchising each adaptation.
No, I'm not looking to buy a franchise or to be involved, it was just a crazy idea at the time.
See you next year @c0ff33a.
Its not the first time I've been caught on a security camera (err - different story). Anyway, yes, it was a great day, and its also great to have proof at last that it actually happened !!!
This has given me the nudge I need to push the incubator idea out. I've written up a post about it, and had a few people proof read it, but just didnt send it out.
And just to say - we had some more of the coffee this morning - absolutely lovely !!!
That's one way to get photos of the event. I must admit that I should have taken more pics of my own meetup.
Regarding the game incubator. I think we need more resources for people getting started with coding on Hive. I share the scripts I write and others have done so too. We need more examples of using the available APIs.
As for paying to view content, I saw the Leo guys were talking about premium subscriptions. They need to keep the prices down to make it available to a wide audience.
Writers can spread their work across multiple posts to increase the potential rewards. What we really need is more content consumers who will read it. Even if people are not producing content they can still earn from curation.
haha, I guess that's one way to get photos 😁
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
It does look like an AA meeting, 😂
Guess it’s a good thing you had that camera set up…..
This is a good one and will serve as a good memory that will remain
