Yesterday, a Hive user replied to me with the following comment and question regarding LUV:
Feels like a useless token. What is its utility?
So, let's look at possible use-cases of LUV.
Use-case 1
The goal of @luvshares is to spread some LUV around the Hive blockchain. In my view, that's useful. Suppose you read a really interesting article about porcupines (I learned yesterday they climb trees...I'd always thought they were entirely ground-dwellers). I might reply, "I loved your article, thanks, I learned something about porkies. Have some !LUV
." Suppose the person wrote a post explaining how, after years together, and because of its suffering, they had to put down the family dog that day. You can feel their sadness. Perhaps you've been in that same place before, but you're not sure what to say. !LUV
The main use-case of the LUV token is to share love around the Hive blockchain.
Use-case 2
LUV brings a smile, maybe. I'm sure some people may not want such comments by token-bots and may view them clutter in the comment sections of their feeds. However, I think when most people receive a message saying, "...you were just shared some LUV...", their response is positive. Someone cared enough to take the time to respond to them personally in an uplifting manner. LUV brings positivity.
Use-case 3
LUV helps you meet and engage with other people. To the user who questioned the usefulness of LUV, understand, we had a brief engagement of a question-and-answer. If the LUV token had not existed, then we would have not connected. The LUV token connects people.
Use-case 4
There will be a few collectible NFTs. I understand that it is not everyone's "thing" to collect stuff. And I understand that many don't see the value in collecting NFTs, which they view as jpgs and gifs that they can already see freely on the web. (These folks don't get it. You can see the Mona Lisa and you can buy a poster copy, but you still don't own the Mona Lisa. With NFTs, you do own the original.) Some people have already found a use-case in owning LUVshares NFTs (click "All Created Art" on that page to see them all).
Use-case 5
It is fun. A small robot-guy banging on a tractor with a hammer, trying to fix it? Come on, that's fun. Fun is always a use-case!
Use-case X and a challenge
There may be more use-cases for the LUV token. These are ones that came to mind.
As something of a challenge to anyone who feels that the LUV token is useless, I'll throw this out there:
- Find three people/posts you like, (or, maybe, ones that you don't like), then simply reply with the command
!LUV 1
. You don't even need to write any comment. That command will give the poster 1 LUV for free. - See what happens after you do that.
- I'll even give you the 5 LUV needed to make the
!LUV 1
command work. Just let me know or put your username in this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSecI41WoSAhsM7kA4t4fqPo1gDgLG733v1YNWaK9eXASKiCvQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

Command accepted!
Hah! Look at that! Thank you. :)
Hey @crrdlx, you were just shared some LUV. With at least 5 LUV in your wallet, you can give 3 LUV per day, for free. See the LUV tokens in your wallet at https://hive-engine.com or learn about LUV at https://hive.blog/@luvshares https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmZosc5B9VvqHJs1xVbLoxxGGc6BfmwJukG1dAr3J6PBLX
Thanks for the update. I totally forgot that I can use it. Wasn't on Hive for some time and feeling overwhelmed with all the tokens that have been created.
