Musing about my account creations using @hivesql

in #hive3 years ago

Over the years on Hive I've created quite a few Hive accounts manually with my primary account @demotruk. Using @hivesql, I can see that it has been 83 in total.

SELECT Count(DISTINCT new_account_name) FROM TxAccountCreates WHERE creator = 'demotruk'

83

Reviewing the names, three categories emerge.

SELECT new_account_name FROM TxAccountCreates WHERE creator = 'demotruk'

There are my own accounts, gift accounts for friends and family, and users I helped to onboard, generally on Hive Telegram.

Sadly, of the 83 created accounts, only 6 are still making transactions since Nov 1.

SELECT Count(DISTINCT author) FROM TxComments JOIN TxAccountCreates ON author = new_account_name WHERE TxAccountCreates.creator = 'demotruk' AND TxComments.timestamp > '2021-11-01 00:00:00.000'

6

Of those, one is my own account and another is my wifes, so of the others only 4 are active, and none of the gift accounts are active.

SELECT DISTINCT author FROM TxComments JOIN TxAccountCreates ON author = new_account_name WHERE TxAccountCreates.creator = 'demotruk' AND TxComments.timestamp > '2021-11-01 00:00:00.000'

@jianil90 @lucieagboola @demotruktrade @ruscom @golodriga @yunnie

Of the 4 still recently active, they are still pretty new. 2 at least, @jianil90 and @ruscom are still working away trying to get started in the difficult social game that is Hive.

Of the less recently created accounts, not a single one is still active.

Conclusion

It's hard to get going on Hive. Aside from creating the account itself and often a small Hive Power delegation, I didn't really help any of these users to get going. I see some groups of new users getting kick started straight to the front page (eg. the group from Cebu, Philippines, and many from Vietnam recently), but without the kind of camaraderie and/or assistance from established users, it is a struggle. Yet, objectively it is less difficult here to reach earnings than on other platforms based on simple numbers - it's a much smaller percentage of Youtube creators that even see a single penny, on the other hand the median payout on posts here is now above $2, ie. half of all posts make enough money to buy a can of coca cola.

My hope is that the apps themselves are worth sticking around for on Hive in the future, even if most users don't make a significant monetary return on the time they spend here.

Good evening.

I do not consider this a defeat.

There are simply nuances and they are not immediately clear to beginners🤷‍♂️. Perhaps due to the difficulties, they did not stay on Hive. And money does not play a role in this.🤗

Just like in any project, Hive also has drawbacks. But I see in you a strong team and the promise of the Hive ecosystem 💪

@golodriga on my community. She will come back later.

I am still very busy, but later I will continue the development of the Russian community "RusCom". I just need to fix my job problems 😒

I wish you success! 👍

I have tried to adopt a few new users and see to it that they can get enough upvotes to get started and help out with navigating the ecosystem. It was a great help for me in the early stages when I came here knowing nobody to have the help of others in the Irish community.
It is a hard slog but if users stick with it they can soon reap the rewards, much better than on other social medias.

I totally agree, that it is a total struggle when people don't get support on their first days.

Support is crucial making people stay and making people invest in the system.

I am doing my part in teaching people how to get on

In response, I would like to say, gradually everything will be fine.
