Hey guys, I hope your Monday went well, or has started well if you're behind in time like most of the world is. Here in Australia Monday is over almost over and I'm just about to catch some zzz's in preparation for Tuesday and another day of work.
Anyway, Monday...I had a good day today although it was quite unremarkable at work; I signed a new client, met one in person who travelled from Melbourne to Adelaide to meet me, had some lunch, answered and wrote some emails...Typical stuff really although...
I also took some time to head into Diamond's Cameras in the city to get my...Wait for it...First ever macro lens! And do you reckon I'm excited? [Yes is the answer.]
But before you get too excited with me I haven't actually got it; I put a couple hundred dollars down on it and won't probably get it for 3-4 weeks or so. I hate doing this sort of stuff but they called me and told me of the impending price rise and so I had no choice but to go and drop some money on it - It saved me $180 in additional cost so pretty worth it.
I picked up the Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro 4/3 lens for my Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III which I purchased a few months back. It's a mirrorless camera and so far I've been really happy with it. The lens is the last I think I'll need and completes my kit.
Keep in mind I'm not a photographer nor will ever profess to be. For my needs this camera does the job and I'm happy with it from a cost and performance perspective. It is compact enough to take with me daily when I travel and has enough settings that I can get very creative plus a few features to assist in better images which is a good thing for me - I need the help.
The addition of this lens means I have four lenses for it and that's probably all I need considering my lack of photographic ability. (14-24mm, 40-150mm and 25mm + the macro lens).
I've never done macro photography though...Sure, I've photographed things up close by they never really came out right and I'm hoping the lens I bought will help me get some better macro shots.
I don't expect to be taking photos of the eyes of a beetle or something, however I'm hoping to take some interesting shots which I will probably share here, if they are not shit. I'm not into embarrassing myself when there are so many great photographers putting stuff up here.
If anyone has tips I'd be glad to hear them so comment away. Please don't get too technical as my limited understanding of photography will mean it's probably lost on me. Still, feel free to comment as anything that may help me will be greatly appreciated.

Should be way better than your smartphone, but even that was pretty impressive.
(tip) The f2.8 will make it work well in low light, like in the evening time.
Hey there! Yeah, the phones do a decent job these days huh? I almost used that photo of the keys Intooknthenityer night for a post. Changed my mind. Will take a new one.
Thanks for the tip. Anything I can learn is good for me as I know virtually nothing. I'm a point and shoot sort of dude. 🤪
We will have to celebrate your new lens when it arrives. And no, don't censor your photos too much, we want to see it all. All I say! And I bet you will be really exited about it, so exited that you soon find yourself taking photos of the eyes of a beetle. Or eyes. And beetles. Can't wait to see that! :)
Hey mate, yeah that sounds like a good plan. I'm really hoping all you guys have the time and desire to catch up with this nutbag Aussie guy when I'm there! Who knows, maybe I'll not take beetle macros and take some @insaneworks macros instead that day! Lol.

This sounds... insane. And weird. And scary.
Just remember, our beetles are smaller than yours so you better train that macro shooting. Or train a beetle to stay put. Which ever is easier to do.
I might have to feed those beetles more munkki's...Fatten them up a little.
That must be the easiest solution. After few munkki's, ain't no-one capable of moving. Not even beetles. Perhaps only rolling down the hill. It's a good thing the munkki cafeteria is on top of the esker. You can always get away.
Haha, looks like me after a good session at the all-you-can-eat buffet! Lol.
@insaneworks you have received

I hope you're not going to start taking photos of gravel. I've heard that's popular these days... ;)
Yeah, call it boulders...Could do a whole series of posts about it! 🤣
Actually, blurry pictures of bus stops is better.. Bust stop Saturday challenge...Haha, going to be a winner. (Not).
Seriously though, are people so unimaginative? Hmm, don't bother answering as I know the answer.
I demand that you skip gravel/ boulders, and go straight to taking nude selfies spread eagle on Uluru. Do it, you pussy.
Dude, how the fuck did you know exactly what I was going to do?
Ya love it ya pussyboi.
🤣
Because, who wouldn't wanna go rub their ass juices on a giant religious rock?
I know right? But here's the thing...No one is allowed on Ayres Rock now. Banned. I don't call it Uluru as I grew up knowing it as Ayres Rock, just how I am. Many call it Uluru and that's ok too.
I'll have to rub ass juices elsewhere.
It is a really good lens, I have one myself that I picked up second hand from a friend.
So...I can expect photos as good as yours or does it have something to do with the photographer. If it does, I'm screwed! 🤣
Should be fine. Good for portraits as well.
Haha, might do some like Eve does...Not. The blockchain isn't ready for that.
I don't think the blockchain's going to be too shocked, not after what Apsu did. 😅
That's a point...My eyes are still recovering from that.
If there's room for smartphone photography in here, you can bet your photos will be much appreciated. Can't wait to see your macros. My only tip for your is to have patience to do some editing to your photos, from what I noticed, it changes a lot the vibe of the pic.
Why thank you good sir, I will accept that compliment with a smile.
I will play around with the lens for a while, see what it produces, before I post anything. (Maybe.) I won't be going for any Pulitzer prizes for my work, just something interesting for post photos I guess, so that takes the pressure off.
Thanks for commenting and I hope you're well. Back going ok these days?
My back is a bit better and I'm realizing that I should be doing these damn exercises after being done with the therapy for my entire life. Karma 😁.
Waiting for the macro works of art, and who knows, maybe a Pulitzer won't be such a high target.
I've been seeing an osteopath which seems to have had a positive effect on my back/scoliosis issues. Had some exercises to do too...Been on it too, every day as I need to end the pain and if it helps I'll get it done.
Wouldn't mind a Pulitzer prize to hang on the wall. Unlikely it'll happen though...Do they have a Pulitzer prize for bad photography? I'd win that one!

Thank you.
That's a fun purchase sir galenkp, you're gonna get some interesting shots with that!
Should be good...When I get it. Lol.
Yeah you might find out you have some talent in that field after all!
Cool. Interested to see how you go with it. They are not as easy as they seem with DOF.
My photography is that bad I don't think it will make much difference if it's easy of not. I'll have some fun though, and that's all I'm interested in really. I don't take photos for accolades or awards and am never going to be good at it as it doesn't interest me enough to get good at it.
I put a new shot up from your neck of the woods ;-)
Just saw, voted and commented. :)
Thanks
