Hive Incubator #2 - Looking at the Top 20 Stakeholders - What can we learn from them and what can we teach others?

in #hive5 years ago

Yesterday we explored what Hive Incubator intends to do. If you have not read that article, please read it here.

(Top 10 of the top 20 list I compiled)

I wanted to research the top 20 stakeholders and get a general idea of how they use the Hive blockchain.

Top 20 Stakeholders (In order)

@freedom @blocktrades @darthknight @mottler @adm @self-power.com @jamesc @theycallmedan @ranchorelaxo @xeldal @riverhead @pharesim @payroll @trafalgar @roadscape @thejohalfiles @xxxxxxxxxx @arhag @azircon @steemmonsters @safari @wackou @smooth-a @created @curatorhulk @themarkymark @livingfree @steemed @gtg @drbanner @amityconcord @pepperymoose @enki

All numbers I reference are from the graph I put together

Once I had a list of the top 20, I started filling in information including how much stake they have, how many followers they have, how old the account is (in moons), For calculations I added or subtracted their delegations in order to get an accurate idea of how much they were earning in APR based off the last week of information.

Of the 20 accounts, 6 of them had little to no economic activity so for the basis of this post we will skip over those accounts.

Quick Thoughts

It is easy for me to see when looking over this information that there is a correlation between a user that has a lot of Stake, is active on the blockchain, and recieves a good APR (whether that be for curating through their account, possibly being part of a curation trail, or delegating to curation projects). However, even an account like @self-power.com can get really high rewards for just delegating their power to @upmewhale.

The numbers alone tells quite a story

Speaking from JUST a financial aspect, one can see how the economic model can benefit stakeholders.

I think what is just as exciting is you can benefit from the economic model WHILE building your brand, a project, or even (with the help of iniatives on other social media sites like @nathanmars is doing on Twitter) can help Hive blockchain to be just another piece of a complete marketing puzzle that we as a community can help facilitate.

For those who are just learning about Hive, what is exciting about our blockchain is the stakeholders largely take an active role in helping create something with constant improvement. It is in their best interests to see it succeed so you will see many stakeholders (both big and small) push to make it better.

For instance, @theycallmedan is the founder of 3speak.online and uses his stake to not only help fight abuse of the blockchain but also to reward users that upload on his platform with his upvote! (the more stake you have, the higher your upvote is, which helps decide who the newly created Hive go to.)

@xxxxxxxxxx is very active on the different Dapps (decentralized apps) on Hive and greatly supports the projects he believes in and criticizes those which he doesn't. The result is dapp developers having to consider the community and what their dapp will do for the blockchain (both good and bad).

@steemmonsters (rebranded Splinterlands) is a very successfull Dapp that has helped bring recognition to Hive. It is a very popular game that many people use everyday. The economic powerhouse that is Splinterlands is a project many people on the blockchain are proud of and continue to support.

@themarkymark is a very active user on the platform and is oftentimes in the middle of anything big going on. He is a great point of contact and supports many different projects.

In summary

It is in the stakeholder's best interest to see the blockchain continue to improve and provide value to users. Telling this story and sharing the possibilities with people outside the ecosystem is paramount for our growth so we have to figure out how to better tell it.

I hope everyone can learn something from the information I compiled, I think it tells a great story and I look forward to hearing from people that want to tell their "use case" of what Hive has done for them, and what they hope to accomplish here.

My next steps will be talking directly with users, both through posts an live-streaming/video replay to learn to better tell the story of what Hive can do.

From there, it is my intention to use that story to bring in more people and learn what they want to accomplish and show, mentor, and incubate their project here.

Thank you for reading.
