A parent cannot diagnose a psychotic disorder. However, a parent or guardian may be able to recognize the cluster symptoms which indicate that psychosis may be the problem.

➡ Below are some descriptions of a young person's appearance and behavior which might indicate that psychosis is a problem.

A young person developing a psychotic disorders may:

1⃣ Spend more time alone in their bedroom.

2⃣ Become increasingly secretive or avoid answering parents' questions.

3⃣ Begin expressing strange ideas.

4⃣ Display sudden outbursts, explosive and highly emotional reactions.

5⃣ Appear 'changed' in a way that parents can't quite describe.

6⃣ Appear unmotivated.

7⃣ Distance themselves from peers.

8⃣ Show a decline in school grades due to not completing work, not doing as good a job as they used to, or missing school.

9⃣ Use alcohol or other drugs, particularly cannabis, to dull unfamiliar feelings and upsetting emotions.

🔟 Appear suspicious or accuse friends of acting against them (for example, talking about them behind their backs, plotting against them).

Are you concerned about young one after reading this or you know a child with these problems? Kindly take him or her to mental health professional for screening and assessment.
