I’ve been on a posting binge lately. The weather’s got me stuck inside, and I’m making the most of my house arrest. But I wonder if posting this much is gonna paint a target on my back.
Winning too hard
And that’s got me thinking about something I’ve noticed. You’ve probably seen it too—people getting downvoted just for disagreeing over rewards. Our decentralized setup lets it happen, even pushes it, I’d say. But nobody on the other side of a downvote says it feels good.
A few weeks back, @solominer said on his Discord show his posting’s gotten strict because of this. Too many posts, and the downvotes roll in. His earnings are capped by some fuzzy fairness idea we’d all argue over.
But Solo’s not alone, either. @edicted(you know, the Mercury retrograde guy) has caught flak for raking in too much with his market predictions. His winning’s gotta stay moderate or people get salty.
Disagreements aside
This isn’t really the author’s fault. Unless someone’s spamming the blockchain with trash, a prolific blogger’s just doing their thing.
The real mess is curation—or the lack of it. We’re all guilty. We wanna back good people, sure, and good content, but mostly good people. So autovotes are everywhere, like pebbles by the river.
I’m hardly seen
So I don’t think I’ve attracted negative vibes yet, but where’s the threshold? When do people start squinting at me and thinking: Wait a minute… that dude’s winning too hard… can’t have that…
MenO
I know some people are scared to get too much attention sometimes around here. I think that if you do okay then you can't complain about a few downvotes, but you have to avoid it getting nasty. There are people who will wipe you out if you attack them. Most are okay though.
I get the idea of not allowing pointless farming kinda. But the issue is that we don't really agree on what farming means.
I'm sure extreme examples are easy, like Haejin. But, what about a dude that just loves to write a lot. Is he farming for posting two, three times? How many posts are too many posts? Is 4 posts that add up to 2 dollars too much? Says who?
That's my beef, so to speak.
It's all a matter of opinion and we don't have to all agree. The system was designed to be 'policed' by the users and some choose to use their power like this. I have done my share of downvoting, but most have never done that.
