Flew Shot is the title of my weekly posts about whatever random content I come up with. From writing about blogging and marketing to promoting my podcasting career, curating music & art to writing about sociopolitical issues and agriculture. I'll create one of these at least once a week, often more. Sometimes I use specific tags and communities for these posts.
WE ARE OPEN.
Every Monday I will be creating a post along with sharing our custom OPEN sign on social media. This will be part of three weekly posts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or OPEN, LUNCH, CLOSED. The primary purpose of these posts is to advertise our business. A secondary purpose is to showcase a part of our business model which we use as an example of what we can do for your business. Lastly, perhaps a more important and very deliberate purpose for these posts is to provide a dose of motivation, inspiration, anecdote, education, and awareness about a multitude of topics and subjects.
I don't have a specific subject today as I am mentally pulled in numerous directions presently. One thing I have been focused on today is listening to educational and informational podcasts again. I normally enjoy a podcast when I have a lengthy commute to and from school or work, which I don't have so much these days, although that might change. Fortunately, I have ample quiet time alone in my office for it.
This morning I started the day with the latest episode of Dr. Caroline Leaf's amazing podcast aptly named after her best-selling book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess. I started listening to her podcast regularly a couple of years ago when I delved deep into neuroscience as a clinical graduate student.
Neuroscience if the study of the development nervous system, the brain and its connection throughout the body. Through neuroscience and neurobiology, we begin to understand almost every aspect of human behavior and how our environment, diet, and social interactions play a crucial role in our over all wellbeing. Neuroscience allows us to see direct correlations, causations of disease and disorder, when we examine the links between what we ingest and absorb through eating, breathing, bathing, sight, and sound, touch, and even thoughts.
Dr. Caroline Leaf is one of the world's leading experts on neuroscience and, more specifically, neuroplasticity, the idea that our brains can be changed constantly by learning and adapting new behaviors and practices. At one time, doctors believed that once a person experienced significant brain damage they would become what was referred to as a vegetable, incapable of learning and healing. Fortunately, through the work of top-tier scientists and medical experts such as Dr. Leaf and her predecessors, we now know the human brain is capable of learning and healing almost entirely regardless of how much trauma or toxicity it has incurred.
Dr. leaf's podcast, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess, not only focuses on her own work throughout her decades long career, she features interviews with and covers the important work of many of the world's most leading authorities in the fields of medicine and behavioral studies. I have often cited her books and scientific articles in my own academic writings and will continue to do so as I make my way through several terminal degrees in the clinical and sociopolitical realms.
Once you get into Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess, you will find yourself exposed to the upper echelons of psychology and medicine. And one of the things you will begin to notice is how the leading experts, bestselling authors, and clinicians sound like one of your whacky hippy-dippy friend who you might normally get a good laugh out of as they explain that healing and curing ailments such as diabetes, cancer, chronic and debilitating anxiety and depression, to name a few, is as simple as believing you can do it all on your own with positive thoughts and a healthier lifestyle. Crazy, right? Welcome to my world...
Above, I mentioned not having a specific topic for today's post. I anticipated a bit of freewriting in different directions, partially because I'm out of practice. I guess it's like riding a bike? Let's see what happens Wednesday for the LUNCH post.
