Can We Harness the Power of 3Speak, HiveStreams.Live and InLeo Shorts to Create Hive TV?

This is a bold plan but entirely realistic. I hope you Hivians will jump on board with this one.

It is my belief that Hive has the capability of giving the television industry a run for its money. It also has the power to circumvent the hideous television commissioning process and giving opportunities to people with genuine skill and talent. So guys if you happen to be an aspiring creative type interested in television or filmmaking read on and let's explore how Hive could be employed to create not just our own tv channel but our very own tv station.

Archaic Television Commissioning Processes

For those of you unfamiliar with the television commissioning process, that is to get television programmes actually made and broadcasted, I can tell you it is a near impossible challenge if you have an independent mind. If you are passionate about scriptwriting for television or have a serious desire to want to make any type of content for television, whatever the concept, you ultimately have to convince a broadcasting commissioner that your idea is super fantastic and will engage audiences.

Whether it's for traditional stations or online television providers, the only people with the power to greenlight scripts and concepts for television are broadcasting commissioners. As someone who has been trying to crack the television industry for many, many years I can tell you it is no easy task, to put it mildly. The gatekeepers in that industry are more powerful than the film industry.

Furthermore, these days you will almost certainly have to go through production companies, so you're starting point is trying to get work within a production company, but with competition so stiff that is also a very difficult thing to achieve. It also comes with its own very well established customs of ass kissing and dick sucking. You will almost certainly have to sell your soul to the devil.

If you are an outsider to the television industry but you know you have the skills and talent to create successful programmes, whether scripted or non-scripted, breaking into the industry is a wholly thankless and near impossible task. It is an extraordinarily difficult position to be in. Not only do you need the skills, you also need to know the right people and then you have to kiss a lot of ass and then you have to fit into a mould once all the ass kissing is done. It can be a miserable experience.

But ladies and gentlemen it doesn't have to be this way any longer, because we now have decentralised technologies like Hive. I am not overstating the mark here.

We Have the Infrastructure and the Tools to Build Hive TV

Take a quick look at 3speak and you will see there is no shortage of Hive users wanting to broadcast themselves to the world. There is already a myriad of videos constantly being uploaded. The video content is varied and wide ranging and 3Speak users make their contributions to the platform from all over the globe. We already have an abundance of video content to choose from. Turn your attentions to InLeo Shorts and we find another source of established content waiting to be beamed out to the wider community and the world.

Now bring in HiveStreams.Live to the mix and the whole game changes. Between these two platforms we already have the infrastructure set up to create our very own Hive TV station. I would urge caution in the first instance. And what I mean by that is we should focus our efforts on initially setting up one live functioning channel with a full daily schedule and test the waters with that one channel. If this one channel gets the levels of engagement needed to be successful then we can turn our attentions to other channels.

Hive TV - Will It Really Work?

So how would it actually work in practice? In order to make Hive TV a success the base for the project would be established on HiveStreams.Live, we need a constant live stream to introduce programmes, shows and videos. Using add-ons like OBS Studio we can switch between a live broadcast and uploaded videos or switch between different live streamers. To start with we will need a few presenters who have the confidence and skill to talk live to the audience and introduce programmes and other live shows that will be broadcast. We will need to keep the schedule filled.

In terms of actual content this will be subject to numerous conversations, which is a good thing. We will be very proactive in seeking ideas from the community. We all have things we like to watch on television, the same can be said when checking out videos on 3speak. But we have a very creative community in Hive, I can not imagine for one moment there will be a shortage of content, or programme variety.

You'll note I am using the word we. There can be no doubt that if we want this project to be a success it will require Hivians to come together and build Hive TV. If we can galvanise enough interest and generate a collective energy we should then be in a position to see this idea through.

We could then even use Hive as a means of dialogue with broadcasters, we might even be able to use it to bypass the production companies because they are the ones who normally do the pitching on behalf of the aspiring writer or programme maker. So in effect Hive becomes the platform to pitch the whole concept. I truly believe it may be possible to circumvent the production companies and bypass all the power they yield in this business. It's not as crazy as it sounds.

So who's in?

I will deliberately tag in all the people I have met so far in this community who I believe could make a valuable contribution in making this idea become a reality. It really wouldn't take that much effort to get Hive TV up and running and it would simultaneously help bring us all closer together.

THE ONLY THING PREVENTING HIVE TV SUCCEEDING IS A LACK OF WILL POWER AND DETERMINATION

Well first of all, its a bold plan, and one we have already sort of had before when I made MSP Waves all those years ago.

However, unlike Waves which was commissioned of me by an ego that only wanted his own little private toy, this time I built am open-door platform for anyone and everyone to use and made HiveStreams to open the door to anyone who wants to livestream, to have the place to be able to do so.

It is my longer term goal to connect to the 3spk network so that users can save and store live streams for further replay after their live events end, but I am just one guy building this alone with zero budget and only my own sweat equity in it to make it happen, so its a bit slow to develop the lengthy list of features I have in store for everyone. Also, they are only just now coming into a beta phase of that network so it's not quite ready for my platform to feed it yet anyway as far as I can tell so far. It's definitely the plan though.

HiveStreams.Live is intended to offer this opportunity to be accessible to anyone and everyone and currently does just that. Allowing anyone who wishes to stream to the world, a place to do so that is firmly rooted in Hive based philosophies and integrations with the chain, the currencies and other Hive developers tools - like HiveLive.Me for tipping and stream tip overlays by @bambukah, the key tools made by the various auth plugin makers such as Hive Keychain, HiveSigner and soon AIOHA to handle ANY key tool, and also coming soon, 3spk network integration for recording encoding and decentralized replay storage, eventually anyway, though that's got some work on the 3pk nodes side AND on my side to get the coding and integrations done to become fully realized.

But if anyone wants to do some kind of "Hive TV" - they can, right now, today, at https://HiveStreams.Live just like using Twitch or Youtube out in the "normie world" and in fact, they can actually use all three or any other streaming outlet based on the RTMP protocols at the same time ,using various methods or services to restream to multiple outlets.

So I do definitely appreciate your including the site on this post, and to all who read it, if you want to stream, what are you waiting for? You can start right now at HiveStreams and add any of these other components or target outlets as you wish. No limits, no gatekeeping communities or ego-filled would be "community leaders" stopping you at all!

Hope to see you in the streams soon!

Hey @sircork, yes you have done an incredible job with HiveStreams.Live, but what I want to do is bring it together with the other platforms to create an independent project called Hive TV. We certainly do have the technology to do it but that's the easy bit!

Trying to bring people together and organising a daily schedule with regular presenters to make Hive TV a reality - that's the difficult part.

This is true. At the height of Waves, with a ready-made community of about 4,000 people from which to draw show content and hosts, as well as an audience, we were able to at it's peak, get something like 15 or 16 one-hour shows running back to back as I recall for continuous programming.

That took time, to find the show hosts, ensure they would produce content on the required schedule continuously and consistently for their assigned time blocks from week to week, keep the technical operations running, typically having to train all the creators on how to make streaming content, how to use OBS (the industry standard for streaming and even commercial television programming) how to use the platform to keep the stream running during handoffs between time-sequenced shows without dropping the feed to viewers all over the world and more.

But honestly, I am not 100% sure trying to create a monolithic "channel" per se is the contemporary way to do this. I like the concept, but I fear the timing for such a "TechTV" style channel of that nature may have already passed, after all, that peaked on cable in 2004. (What IS Leo Leporte doing these days, anyway? I wonder?)

In the modern content consumer market, the idea is anyone can make video or streaming content, hence youtube, twitch, tiktok, FB reels etc have come to be the de-facto way to consume such media and television is the realm of propaganda, agenda driven drivel and mostly is the territory of "boomers". I'd actually predict "television" in the sense we all grew up with, is on the path of "newspapers" which the last two generations have barely ever even seen in the wild. Just as the internet killed newspapers and "video killed the radio star", self published video and livestreams are also killing centralized or monolithic "television" as a concept entirely.

I do think it would be great if "Hive daily news" reporting and "Hive live event" coverage and so much more took place via the HiveStreams.Live platform, but it's entirely up to the entire community at large to take on how they wish to create it and consume it.

Some will make prerecorded video-on-demand VoD content for 3speak to present in a "youtube" like fashion, others like event creators or game streamers or daily news/talk/interview/etc type content may choose to live stream with a chat audience participating with them and interacting live as one might do on HiveStreams.Live.

If you were talking about making an "actual" television channel, as in, one that would run on broadcast television, or even on cable or satellite networks, well, that's ambitious, expensive and requires infra and quality I am not sure I've seen the means for here, or really even on twitch or youtube, till you get to "Mr Beast" scale budgets and team sizes (hundreds, even thousands of staff involved in each production they make)

But if anyone wanted to make "Hive TV" today, it's certainly possible right now, to live stream, record it, store it on 3Speak and publish about it on the chain. That was always the goal of HSL and 3Speak, currently, each in our own ways and with plans to be more tightly integrated as soon as I can make that technically happen, given I'm doing it alone with no money and little time outside my day job. 3Spk Network I believe is in beta, and from my side, I just need to work on the technical integration to send streams to their encoding nodes and onward to store on their network as it becomes a more production ready system.

Yup, again we have the technology, that's already there. What we now need to make Hive TV a reality is for people to come together so we can organise a properly structured station called Hive TV and bring the community together.

Remember Hive TV will not be a rerun of MSP Waves.

You, we, could be onto something here. I look forward to seeing how this unfolds and what I can to do to contribute. !BBH !DOOK
