RE: Not sure if it's the platform or the people

in #hivelast year

I like Hive quite a bit from a theoretical standpoint. To be honest though, it does feel like there is something strange about it. I see people that no matter what they post get hundreds of votes for double digit rewards but no actual engagement or comments. I even occasionally get that. And it feels good but, still fake.

So when people get used to the fake 'engagement' and they're really only posting daily or whatever they're doing to get payouts, I kind of can see why they then get upset when it doesn't happen. Like you post something and 300 people upvote it. Then you post something and no one cares at all, it is a bit demoralizing. Kind of guessing none of those 300 people actually even read that post. So what's the point?

Granted, building a following that actually cares and engages is difficult on any social platform... here everything just feels fake to me. Other than the very few actual people that comment and interact occasionally. Guess it could just be me though. 🤷‍♂

I take it since you're new you're not aware of curation trails, basically the amount of votes doesn't mean anything on hive. Compared to other blockchains transactions here are free and only cost resource credits which most accounts have, even small ones, so they can at no cost follow other votes and apply their votes on whatever they vote. Then there's also autovotes on whatever people post, you can "follow" accounts with your votes with tools such as hive.vote. It's more about knowing who the voters are, how much stake they have and if they tend to vote automatically or manually.

Anyone could for instance have created 1000 accounts, set up a trail and constantly get 1000 votes on every post, but based on the stake it still could mean less than $0.01 rewards so amount of votes really doesn't mean much. It's all about comments.

I see. I didn't actually know it was that easy to tack on so many votes. It truly is all about the comments. Actual interaction. 😅

There's some people even "trailing" my comment votes which is a bit misleading, after I give you a vote now you may see a couple other votes land on your comment straight after.
