Boycotting Hive in protest at @hivewatchers

in #hive2 years ago (edited)

Update 23 April 2023: Continuing my boycott indefinitely. Find me as tdctunes on most Web 2.0 places. Sadly, I trust the big corporates to police their platforms more than I trust the self appointed @hivewatchers

Original post:

Specifically: I am protesting about the continued blacklisting of @pixiepost
That being said there are plenty of other examples of people making minor (or subjective) infringements where the blacklisting punishment was way out of proportion.

IMPORTANT: I will not be reading or replying to any comments on this post.

This is NOT about getting into the pros and cons or starting a discussion. There are PLENTY of those already on the chain.

If you are interested in discussing this topic you could do worse than start with this post:
https://peakd.com/hive/@doze/hivewatchers-drama-ai-drama
and my comment on it which makes my position clear:
https://peakd.com/hive/@tdctunes/re-doze-rr48om
But there are many many others.

I do however want to pull out a quote from my comment above to highlight it though in case you don't read it and think I'm 100% against @hivewatcher based on this post:

It's probably better to have something like Hive Watchers than not have them (although some of the abuses can and are dealt with by not voting/down voting)
Currently there are quite a few mistakes or overly harsh treatments from HW (I've seen several good people driven away)
I get that it's a hard, thankless job but I think they should err on the side of assuming innocence.
But either way yes - the real problem is too much power in too few accounts.

Ok so what does 'Boycotting' mean exactly:

  • I've blacked out my profile picture and background
  • I will not be posting anything, commenting, reading or even opening anything on Hive.
  • I will not be playing @risingstargame or using any other apps based on Hive.
  • I will not be promoting Hive on my Twitter or anywhere else.
  • I will not be going into ANY Discord servers for Hive based communities

For the next month then you can find me:

  • On Twitch every Monday night at 9pm UK time as usual
  • My radio show highlights will be uploaded to my Youtube channel INSTEAD of @threespeak where I normally post them.
  • For shorter form content I'll go back to posting more on my Instagram and Twitter rather than @dbuzz

I'm tdctunes everywhere - not hard to find.

Is this going to make a difference?

I doubt it. I'm under no illusions that my 350 follower, 68 rep account going dark for a month will make a difference but it's important to me to make whatever stand that I can. However, if anyone does feel the same way as me you are welcome to join and do the same thing.

Again just to be crystal clear:

Please don't bother replying to this post, I won't be checking it or replying to any comments.

If contrary to my expectations @pixiepost gets removed from the @spaminator blacklist in the course of the next month, then a couple of people know how to reach me and I'll be back.

Otherwise have a great month and if I don't see you on good old web 2.0 I'll see you on 13th April.

Image Source: It's a black square. It's probably identical to quite a few other black squares. I'm not sure how you'd prove whether I made it or stole it though.

Sort:

Keeping proxy appealing and blackmailing/threatening to get what you want is unlikely going to remove the blacklist.
The user got an offer to appeal, last summer but was not interested in it.
