Idea for curation reward decay past 5min

Edit: Caption should say % not returned to pool

The goal would be to counter the incentive that large HP holders have to vote on low value post at a later time to avoid being seen on the trending.

Thoughts?

There's already a problem with potentially good content not being rewarded. I just see this as penalizing content creators that are not discovered early.

The other issues are trying to game trending to show posts not hive related. You're basically saying that every deserving post has to be upvoted even if the community would rather not see it on trending.

While it would prevent limited cases of less-than-ideal curation, I don't believe this would be a net positive. More people would lose out in both post rewards and curation rewards than Hive would gain from limiting intentionally-late curation.

I often find myself voting on posts 2-5 days old because I can't see everything as it comes out. I would be less likely to vote on those posts if there were a severe curation penalty. And those people posting would lose out on my vote and any other late-comers' votes.

Furthermore, this would incentivize bot voting even more.

Less-than-ideal curators are easier to spot and counter than shaking up the curation system to this degree.

Yeah, It's adding complexity to an already overly complex system.

I'm still in the camp of removing the curation reward entirely.

I have a feeling this is one of the smaller problems we are facing right now and the added complexity won't help any.

I think that this would take the incentive out of curating a majority of content here. There are so many posts that present themselves on a daily/hourly/minute/second basis...& It's almost impossible to read everyone's content. This would present a bigger problem in the long term, as smaller content creators would lose interests. It's already hard enough to receive attention on this platform. I'd say to not make it harder...Just throwing in my two Hives...
