I never ever downvote unless someone literally comes at me swearing or something. I think everything’s valid. What’s spam? Define spam? Maybe that meme made someone’s day. Who am I to judge. If others value it then they value it. Maybe that person made 30 people’s day that day and that was their universal reward.

How about this? https://peakd.com/@starwarz/posts The same post over and over. They were using a load of hacked accounts to upvote their crap and have several other accounts doing the same thing. We may have driven them away. They have done the same thing on Steem. I think that's a pretty good definition of spam.
Others have created masses of nonsense comments to upvote. I would call that abuse too.
Should I go on? It's easy to ignore all this and just take the rewards you get, but we have to actively fight to protect Hive.
This crap is not hard to find. The lure of money will drive people to try anything.
I don’t focus on that stuff. Tbh if they invest enough money to make it worthwhile self voting then at least they are heavily invested. Right now you need a LOT of hive to even get any kind of vote worth doing that with. I rly don’t downvote ppl. If people have an opinion on true spam etc then fair enough but to downvote any genuine person what’s the point, we all know it leaves a negative feeling and I don’t want to leave anyone with a negative feeling like that for no reason just cause we disagree or I don’t see value in their post.
They literally tricked people into giving them access to their accounts to abuse the votes. They did not 'invest'. They literally posted dozens of duplicated posts. Yet you cannot see anything wrong with that? It's all very well not wanting 'negative vibes', but if left unchecked Hive would be a total shit-show. It's a good thing some of us will do the dirty work. As it is we have lots of people earning whilst not even knowing about this shit.
I see you have a couple of $20+ posts since 'all this' started. Good for you. Maybe you can donate some to people who make less.
I'm not looking to fall out with you or anyone who does good stuff here, but I think you have overreacted. Smooth made his motives clear, but you have tried to make people think there is some grand conspiracy. I know a lot of witnesses and 'old guard' do well, but in most cases they have done a lot of the platform and people think they deserve rewards. Some of them flew long distance to Steemfest and other events. Setting up and running a witness node is not cheap. I am sure some of them could make more if they had invested their money elsewhere. Plus some were robbed of huge amounts by Justin Sun. I think you have failed to see the bigger picture whilst enjoying relatively good rewards.
I have invested thousands of hours in supporting small accounts and dealing with abuse. My hourly rate is pitiful, but I think it is worth doing as Hive has great potential to empower millions if we only give it a chance. The community size and rewards are currently minuscule compared to things like Youtube. I want to see Hive grow massively even if it means I make less. I would hope the value goes up, so those who have invested time and money benefit.
Stay well and do good.
You will always get spam like that on any platform the more people tend to focus on it then I think the worse if gets better to try and find little ways around like I think the way blurt charges a minimal amount for comments isn’t a bad idea as that would probably reduce that. No way can you go around manually fixating on those ppl as it’s never ending better to find a system that naturally means people can’t do it. That’s my take anyways. But when it comes to down voting actual users no I would never support that. I think if people value it they value it and downvoting is demoralising and negative and pointless to me just cause I don’t like what they posted. Or couese sometimes I see someone making a hotdog that got a big payout and kinda laugh to myself but maybe their good life karma bought it then or they comment on lots of posts or maybe they just brightened someone’s day.
I know you say it’s not connected but in the early days many new people joined every single day to that steemit chat group. It was the official link from the website. They went to get help. I bet hardly any of them are here today after the way they got treated. Essentially that platform was a great idea it was a collective chat room where new people went for help and support. If it hand’t been man handled and all the newbies laughed at and abused there would be thousands of more members from there right now. A lot also came cause they got freak payouts in the early days just as my one highly priced salad post attracted a lot of inbox messages on my fb after I shared it. How embarrassing it then went to 7 dollars lol so I’m just gonna delete it/ those big payouts are advertising. Now my big payouts are on steem. Whatever you might say, maybe you have a well paid job etc but people want to come to steem and hive to make money, get into crypto and investing, find a community of like minded people and have freedom of speech and to feel free ( hence wanting to leave fb and Twitter). There is a massive platform for artists and creatives for example to get paid to be creative through online blogging rather than clients. They are not going to do it if they can never get more than 25 dollars for a payout. Photo shoots / music equipment etc is very expensive and I’m sure they want to earn a wage too. The idea I always thought was these platforms could make it possible for them if they put in the effort and built enough following and community. Just cause your happy to only ever make the money for coffee, I respect that, but it doesn’t mean that’s what everyone wants or what will draw new people here.
Ive lived in London for 15 years around creatives of all levels, and I’m always meeting new people almost every week on jobs and events. I’ve tried to get many people on. I might not know all areas but that’s one I’m well aware of and I know why they don’t sign up or stay. People can either take my feedback or not it’s just what it is feedback.one reason or course is understanding crypto etc but more and more are owning some now. But no real creative or successful blogger is going to come here to get capped at 25 dollars I’m just putting that out there. They might re share a few things they are doing anyways but to put on a Photoshoot and get images retouched etc takes about 2 weeks and a lot of money. To get real exclusive content and draw ppl in there has to at least be the premise they can get properly paid for their craft. Remember rent here is £2,500 for a month for a one bed flat. A photoshoot or Dj gig gets mostly paid around £500-£25k Altho there are some lower and higher. These people have a lot of down time between jobs and probably at some point get tired of their industries of course they would take less for blogging and creating purely for blogs but they are not going to do it to only ever get £14 lol cause it’s capped. People don’t mind building and starting from zero but the thing that drives them is hope for the future. @johnvibes can probably back me up here.
So right now no way can anyone go and do a proper photo shoot just for hive etc you’ll only get exclusive content like that when people are getting decent payouts to actually create.
