7 years on Hive - The 7 Year Itch

in #hive5 months ago

So another year has passed, it seems...
and I have extended my record of committing to something, a blockchain/blogchain called Hive, for another 365 days.

And although I don't blog daily, I am pretty much 'active' on here, every single day. Sometimes a bit more than I'd like to admit; whether it's lurking in the shadows, curating/upvoting and commenting on other people's posts, 'spying' on wallets and seeing what they are doing, giving friends investing advice, chatting on Discord or keeping the Hive and HBD market active, by selling and buying tokens regularly. Whatever you can think of, I probably do it or have done it.

Perhaps it's just my EGO talking but I like to think that it's people like me, aside from those who keep the blockchain rolling on the technical side, who keep Hive alive. Those that do their utmost best to keep others motivated, no matter how low the value of the HIVE token itself is... and who - as an added bonus - try to churn out content that stands out from the crowd, instead of AI generated or otherwise unoriginal stuff that is mainly aiming at farming tokens.

I also try to make people smile, as much as I can ( like I am doing in my offline life too ), adding some much needed humor to this seemingly bleak world. Not unimportant, as we're living in a time where the human race seems to be heading towards a post-apocalyptic dystopian world ( if you believe the mainstream media ).

A year ago I shared an update on my first 6 years on this platform. You can read about that in: How my life changed during 6 years on Hive

In the last 12 months, I have moved house two more times, as described in Time to Move House again, leaving a (small) city for the countryside, once again.

Eventually, I ended up in what is probably my favorite house so far, in the 6 years I've spent in Portugal.

Not too shabby, right?

I recently learnt from the owner of this house ( I am renting it ), who is a friend of mine, that he will probably be staying away for a couple more months and might not stay long, once he finally returns. So fingers crossed that I can spend a nice amount of time here, from now on.

Then, last Summer as well as this Spring, I started on two new book projects. The first one called The Monster of Disco ( the current avatar on my blog and shown in my profile pic ) and the other A Book in at Least 6 Languages For (cool) Weirdos Like Me .

What else did I do?

I rented a studio, for almost half a year, as can be read in Stu-stu-studio! , only to find out, as was to be expected, that I create better outdoors than between four walls.

I also spent a month in The Netherlands, around Christmas and New Year, feeling sick most of the time. Not as fun a time as I had hoped, due to this and very cold ( compared to Portugal ). Next time I won't go there in Winter. Lesson learnt.

A couple of months ago, I bought a new bike, exchanging my electric bike for a non electric all-terrain bike ( something that saved money but I almost regret, due to the mountainous landscape around here ).

More on the why? in New Wheels

Oh and I almost forgot that I decided to become a fashion model, last week...

More in Fashion Police Beware!

A lot more has happened but, although I do share quite openly about my life, most of the time, there is stuff that I rather keep secret/private, unless you meet me face to face.

Aside from that, it's nice to leave some things open for imagination ;<)

Another year has passed and I am still alive and on Hive. Let's see if I can make it to the big 8.

To Hive one more year or not to Hive one more year? that's the question

As I sometimes say, this place is pretty much like Hotel California:
🎤🎼You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave...🎼

and there are times when I don't know if that is a good thing or not...

usually those pass,
like bouts of gas

I do appreciate many of you on here though and if it wasn't for the community and all the great connections I've made, over the years, I would probably have given up a long time ago, like I have done with/ has happened with all my past jobs, as the money honestly doesn't add up. Fingers crossed for a nice (bull)run in the next 12 to 15 months 🤞 😘

Not the best picture, taken from my garden, but I added it for some much needed realism. I don't like to fake it and this is what today's sky looks like, on a humid, cool Summer day

Sort:

You are one of my favourite people on here Vincent, you have made me smile numerous times and cry also, from a place of gratitude of course.
It's been so great connecting with you on here. I can't imagine you not being here to be honest. I mean who else is going to keep the monsters at bay.
Oh and also keep us up to date on fashion.
Much love and congrats my friend xxxx

Congratulations! :-)

Obrigado! :<)

It a longterm relationship...😁
...and I am glad I run into you along the way🌻💛 (so yes I am for another extension)

💚
I am glad to have run into you too. Perhaps some day in real life :<)

P.S. Can't promise I stick it out for another 7 years on here but I'll see what I can do ;<)

In real life would be awesome indeed☕️ ...I am quite optimistic about that😁

Me too. I am actually quite close to taking the necessary steps to make my way towards Clare. Likely later this month. That already feels like a step closer to (meeting) you ;<)

Ooh, that sounds good!! was about time that happens😊
...would love to be there too, in the moment my projects aren't very compatible with coming down south though, we'll see.🌞

Haha! I know. My mind is often racing but I can take a long time making decisions ;<)

Clare told me you will probably only be available in the Winter and thought of coming here. Let's hope that I'm still in this house, by then and - if so - that the Winter treats us nicely, weather wise ;<)

Sending a hug!🤗

About this I am very sure, that winter, Clare and the house would treat us very well there, no matter the rest😊 💛

Wow congrats on 7 years good friend. Your commitment to Hive is too inspiring. It's great you've found your favorite house in Portugal. Wishing you luck with your book projects and enjoying the countryside too !PIZZA

Thank you! Always glad to inspire people ✨

you're always welcome dear friend

Happy Hiverversary! A big one :D Here's to seven more. Honestly, your place there looks awesome. Might I ask what part of life in Portugal is the clincher for you? What keeps you there, as it were. I was just talking to somebody about living in Portugal for a while, and your post came right on time, hence the query :D
Congrats!!

The weather sure helps. Leaving a country with 200 days of rain per year for one with 300 days of sun ( rough estimate ) sure makes a difference. I also have a twin sister, who used to have a Portuguese partner. I have a strong bond with my twister and my niece and nephew. They decided to move to Portugal, back in 2018. I had already tried living in Spain and spoke Spanish, so I decided to give Portugal a try, this time. I stayed.

Also, life in The Netherlands ( for a creative like me ) was impossibly expensive and I struggled loads there, feeling quite depressed and totally burnout. Plus Portugal has mountains and The Netherlands hasn't.

Need I go on? ;<)

It's cetainly a splendid place you have landed up in.

I am kinda similar, I dont like the idea of posting random stuff just to maximise autovotes and the like and farm tokens. I prefer to be about and post when I have something to say that amuses me at least. If only that was a more common sentiment!

I am kinda similar, I dont like the idea of posting random stuff just to maximise autovotes and the like and farm tokens.

I know that much about you
and you sure could do this, being the O.G. that you are, with loads of possible (auto)votes from whale 'buddies' ;<)

Yay and congrats! I am curious, where are your from originally if not Portugal?
And I just remembered I meant to send you the Circe pdf!! Will get to that today, hopefully! 📖🌈

I am curious, where are your from originally if not Portugal?

I am from The Netherlands, was born and raised in cheese city Gouda.
And yeah, I had forgotten about it too but am looking forward to receiving and reading Circe :<)

Another international person! yay.
I just sent the pdf to your email!

🙌
Received. Thanks a lot!

Loved this post Vin. You are more active than me at the moment. I'm finding it hard to face given what's happening at home with Dad. I'll try to right about it soon.

Have you seen anyone about the socks and sandals issue? I'm sure it's treatable.

'm finding it hard to face given what's happening at home with Dad

I totally get that. It can be hard to see the point in things, in times like these but - at the same time - this place and expression ourselves can be very therapeutic.

Have you seen anyone about the socks and sandals issue? I'm sure it's treatable.

I had to chuckle out loud, when I read this part of your comment!
No worries, I won't go into town like this ( it's an around the house kind of thing and quite exceptional )

Sending love 😘

I won't go into town like this

If you do, you know you're truly insane, or you've turned into a German.

Now that's a bit harsh.
Also, I know a couple of nice Germans who might or might not dress like this ;<)

Congratulations on this long beautiful journey. You've probably been here since this platform was born, and in these years you must have seen many ups and downs, still, you remained here is an achievement in itself. This house you have rented is very beautiful! :)
Sending Love and Ecency Vote!

Thank you. Those who came first, have been here for 8 years
but I wonder how many of them are still active.

Have a nice day and keep hive alive!✨

That place looks awesome!

Congrats on 7 years!

It's not too bad ;<)
Obrigado!

Congratulations to you
This means that you were one of those who immediately believed in Hive when it was launched
That’s amazing and I wish you keep good years on here

I was actually a year 'late' ( and back then it was called Steemit ).
Let's see how much longer I will spend on here ;<)

Congratulation for being so consistent. It's always inspiring to see such commitment and transformation. Keep up the good work.

Cheers! Yesterday I almost felt like giving up on blogging. It happens every now and then. But I think it was just the lack of coffee talking, bringing me down. Today I had two coffees and I'm back ;<)

Yes, there are those days when we don't want to do it. But hey... pushing through those days regularly is what makes your achievement so impressive :)

One of my tricks is apparently called slow productivity ( without having been aware of that, until recently ). If you haven't heard of it, you might want to look it up ;<)

Have a nice day!✨

Interesting. I'm going to dig deep into the idea of slow productivity :)
