If you have been around on HIVE this week, you probably noticed it hivefest, as each year we get a lot of posts of people being there and commenting the event. I thought about going this year but it didn't happen, my last time in person for hivefest^7 in Amsterdam just after covid time and the two virtual fests.
But compare to last year edition, I did follow most of the talks live with a few that I had to catch up on at 1.5 speed on day 1.
It is nice to hear from people deep inside the ecosystem the vison they have of the future. I think we are going in the right direction for personal freedom online and creating a different kind of economical activity, a sort of parallel system with different rules.
During Hivefest we see a lot of communities coming together to discuss their experience on chain. We are Hive.
Hive a blockchain with real activity
I found the talk that crimsonclad gave on day 2 very inspiring, due to her work doing operation for Hive she gets some perspective of people outside the community , how they view us and their interests in the ecosystem.
Apparently people are getting interested not just for the potential winning but are intrigued by the community and its "normal activity", people earning and selling crypto on exchanges creating an organic market that apparently looks nothing like other coins or crypto projects out there.
She said a lot of exchanges would want to list Hive but they expect payment for it which why would we choose to do that ? Do we really need more listings? For us I think it is less critical and we are listed on Biinance which already has huge volumes and is available in most countries around the world.
I say let them come, I don't think it will change the fondamental value, maybe the price will pump but it would only be speculation. Once we grow enough, they won't have a choice but do do it, it will be in their best interests.

Be careful, Hacking is a real thing not more then ever
More then one talk mentioned that but in crypto you are responsible for your money, not your keys, not your crypto. Although as legal/gov are catching up on blockchain tech and opportunity, in some country regulation might change and having the keys might not mean legal ownership of the asset even if you have de facto ownership, this could prove useful in case of theft if keys are recover on the assailants laptop before he can spend the money or transfer it.
Still securing your asset is a big part of being in crypto, and you probably have your own little plan for securing and recovering assets if necessary. Some are even planning their death and structuring crypto into their estate with lawyer, notary and corporations.
One story that I found very moving was Arcange's one where HiveSQL got hacked at the beginning of the year in February. To make a short recap, a hacker got into his main server and deployed a ransomware thet encrypted all data and also manage to get to the backup so he couldn't recover the service from it.
You can hear his story from Youtube on replay.
Threadcasting a new way to connect on chain.
It was nice for this year to have an on chain chat instead of using Youtube comments and creating activity for them we can do it on Hive through inleo.io.
For those not on inleo.io threads are short content similar to a tweet on X but it is on the Hive blockchain, the data is basically a comment under a normal post (thread container) created by a special account. You can actually read thread outside of inleo. During Hivefest, another project called Ecency did announce an app called waves that will allow you to read short content from different front-end and apparently you will be able to interact with it (upvote, reply) directly from their app.
It is nice to see those kind of interconnection between users and applications within the Hie Ecosystem.
Threadcast is basically a live chat containing threads
On inleo you can create threadcast using the # threadcast(without the space), this will create a special thread where you will see replies live during the activity of the cast. If you reach certain criteria, I believe it is around 15-20 comments then your threadcast can be seen by everyone on the home page making it easy to see what kind of live interaction are happening.
Everyday you can see threadcasts up, for myself I have joined during different sports events where people would be watching live at the same time and commenting.
On Wednesday I decided to join a threadcast for Day 1 of Hivefest with some other people and create some threads on the platform. In just two days I have probably increase my thread count by over 70 which is more then 10% of what I did in the previous months. indeed I am not as active as some of the Lions here who already have 10 of 1000 threads already and are doing 600 in one day.
I m already at 132 for September which is getting close to my 150 record in July during the world cup and olympics.
Thank to the new inleo dashboard https://inleo.io/dashboard we can see our stats per month in term of posts, threads and impressions (or views)
I am going to try and get over 200 this month which should be easy if I join another threadcast or do some standalone threads on my own and reply to people's threads.
Hosting first threadcast
Maybe you saw on my feed but I created my first threadcast yesterday to host the morning of hivefest Day 2 and I tried to write comments as I was following the stream for people that wanted to follow it. I was happy to see that some people did join but even came for the afternoon part that was hosted by Khal on his threadcast.
Here is the link if you want to catch up on comments https://inleo.io/threads/view/walterjay/re-leothreads-22hwx9vxr
Conclusion
I have really enjoyed those two days, gave me even more hope in this ecosystem and that we are building a place for everyone who is willing to be able to build something and connect with others. The ability to exchange value over the internet is really going to change human interactions, now we have the ability to support a member from across the world with more then words.
Let build the world together.
PS: I am now trying to build my first few apps using hive and for hive. I have created a compounding calculator where you can do a projection of your Hive Power HP into the future.
This is just a first step in building but I want to build alongside the community rather then release when it is complete done. if you have an idea feel free to drop it in the comments.

Thank you for your attention.

I think the Hivefest this time prioritized a lot of things even better. I think you're right about Binance, but I heard it's not available in the US anymore, and since the US makes up a large following on Hive maybe another exchange would do, not the ones asking for money though
True but you can easily get BTC from the US and then swap it for Hive after. Maybe one day a big Exchange in the US will add Hive but we probably need a bigger market cap.
Congratulations @walterjay! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)
