My Hive Story... What's Yours?

Hello Everyone,

Two of my favorite community members @snook and @shadowspub tagged me to respond to a post of Snook's, how could I decline! :) Here is the post with the questions. https://peakd.com/hive/@snook/making-my-first-100-downvoteSnook's post

How long have you been on the Blockchain?

I joined Steem (now Hive) in August of 2016 after hearing about it on a pod cast, that described it as a Social Media Platform that respected privacy and returned funds to the end users as opposed to advertisers, I also remember that BTC was mentioned and I was very bitcoin curious at the time. I signed up immediately. The timing was good for me, as I had recently left a heavy duty corporate job and was just getting bored with my new found freedom.

What was your background in cryptocurrency when you first came to the Blockchain?

At the time I joined I did not hold any crypto, but I had heard and read several articles about Bitcoin and I found it fascinating, the main issue I had, was I had no idea how to get involved with Bitcoin, but I was curious, very curious.

What was your background in writing when you first came to the Blockchain?

During my corporate life, formal written communication was always a weakness for me, I find that I am much better at relating to an audience, and expressing thoughts and opinions verbally. Due to corporate influence and other life experience, I've always appreciated straight concise communication and bullet points! :)

How many people did you know when you first came to the Blockchain?

When I joined I did not know anyone on the platform, but even then there were developing communities on various chat apps.

How did you meet people when you first came to the Blockchain?

I landed in SteemSpeak, which was a lot of fun back in the day with a diverse set of people and lively conversations which shaped my understanding of crypto, decentralization and more. It's also where I met both Shadow and Snook as well as many others.

Who did you look up to when you first came to the Blockchain?

Interesting question on the chain I found smooth's comments very interesting, I kind of labeled him as a blockchain philosopher. It was all new concepts for me and in chat I loved hearing Inertia, Nate and Mughat talk about various projects, ideas and why they liked them.

How would you describe your first three months on the Blockchain?

Obsessive, I read all the posts, spent hours listening to conversations in discord and literally could not stop thinking about crypto in general. I have always been an advocate for Freedom and Free Markets, so it was like crypto was made for me, and I was shocked it was out there. I made a lot of posts too, but I didn't find any success for quite some time.

Has being a part of the Blockchain changed you in any way for the good?

I can't imagine my life now without crypto, it's become a part of my life and I will forever be thankful for this project and the doors it opened as well as altering my views on how to achieve freedom and free markets. I also have made a lot of interesting friends and a great network as well.

What is your favorite memory from your time on the Blockchain?

I'm not sure I have a favorite, but the best times for me were the early days, even though I wasn't having much success yet the learning curve and feeling like I had just found something that I didn't know I had lost was incredible.

If you could advise a new person signing up to Hive, what would it be?

Find a community or tribe that you enjoy. Make friends, ask questions, have a support group.

Engage, engage, engage..
Stay out of the politics.

And also, get involved in other crypto projects as well.

@snook and @shadowspub, this was a fun walk down memory lane and I used to love doing this type of post! Thanks for tagging me and also thanks for being here!

For the rest of you, I'd like to hear your responses as well!

I got into BTC 10 or 11 years ago

I mined and traded BTC, invested heavily into the new altcoin: Namecoin, and lost out to the collapse of 7 different exchanges, Cryptsy took the most.

I wrote for an evil corporation, I helped start their newspaper to boost moral and it was great until the realized that I was almost never there and when I was I was too busy solving dollar store puzzles to do any actual work.

I didn't know anyone when I got here.

First three months were awful, lonely as fuck, the only people that would talk to me were Chinese and somehow I managed to piss them off, then I found out there was steemit.chat, who new?

I started to look up to this angry trucker guy, but then he told me that he wrote something that I would love, but it was some graphic deviant sex story that creeped me out so bad that I think I hate him even to this day. Seriously, why the fuck did he single me out for that shit!?

Steemit/Hive changed my life by allowing me to meet Sarah, she was new around the same time as me and we ended up getting married and now I live in the UK with her.

Favorite memory was the wedding.

My advice, don't try to please everyone, just be yourself and never read romantic novels written by asshole truckers.

Haha, was it by any chance that dude that couldn't be a trucker anymore cause he smoked too much pot and kept scamming the community for pot money? hahahaha.. He was super creepy.

:) LOL.. I love the story.

I remember the wedding! Congrats again. Good to see you around now playing with the punks!

I think his name was venuspc or something like that, he had a $10k post and to be honest it wasn't very good.

Yep! Thats the one. He couldn't pee clean enough to drive truck so he asked the community to buy him a van for the homeless and he posted lots of creepy shit. Skin crawl.

I had no idea what he was up to, and thank you for the congrats and the remembering and the playing of punks with me lol

OH my Mughat... don't think he ever heard an opinion he wouldn't oppose LOL .. is he still around?

I miss the chats with @seablue too, they were always interesting.

Thanks for doing this @whatsup

mughat pops in every once in a while, but I haven't seen him recently. LOL, mughat was fun and interesting. :)

Oh, yeah.. I still miss Seablue as well.

This was so much fun to read!! Thank you for playing along!! Your posts have been missed.
I too can not imagine not being here.

I also agree with keeping out of the politics!!

Happy Saturday my friend!!

It was fun to write, I've been mostly focused on Leo lately, but I do admit I am starting to miss some more general topics from time to time!

Thanks for the challenge!

Regarding the politics, if you don't have the stake.. there is little point the conversation has barely moved in 5.5 years. :) Who has that kind of attention span? I surely don't.

Who has that kind of attention span? I surely don't.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAA I REALLY don't!! :D

and you are welcome! But you need to tag the boys so we see their stories too :D
or I am going to go into your Discord and keep spamming your post until they do!!!

Interesting contest that inspires engagement. For myself I joined Hive (Steem) looking for a blog site to post articles in which I was commissioned by an upcoming crypto project to create. I didn't earn much HIVE on my posts but I did end up getting paid around $1200 USD in crypto from the project that commissioned me. This was the first meaningful amount of crypto that I had owned. I proceeded to try my hand in trading and did some successful trades and before you know it I had $1500 USD. Being the newbie that I was I thought to myself, "this is easy". I overstepped my knowledge of crypto trading and turned that $1500 USD into $50 USD (I got caught up in a pump and dump). The lost money doesn't compare to the knowledge I gained from the experience.

Wow, that's a super interesting entry, I didn't realize that you came here to write about another project. I've always felt that is a use case we ignore, getting others to come here to pitch their crypto projects to a bunch of people who are a "Warm Audience" due to interest in crypto.

I can definitely relate, I can’t imagine my life without crypto right now. Crypto has shown me my worth and am grateful for that

That's more important than the money by far!

Wow. I love the ending part and I must confess that I have learned something from your post. I am not up to one year on hive but I can attest that Hive needs patience and engagement

If you follow the engagement post, you can see a clear correlation between success and engagement.

Those first months were crazy. It was so full on and so strange and new. A wild time. It has all been wild although much calmer now.

Yeah, it is much calmer, but would it appear that way to a new user? Maybe not with the recent price action and resurgence of hope for riches. lol.

Thanks for making Hive fun and funny!

My first 3 months on steem back then was kind of lonely place, as I don't know much or don't really understand how crypto works back then.
now i can see i am in a better place, but should have done better.

making post and making a good enggagement is not a very strong point on my side, getting lost of idea, or don't know how to responds to others post is the point i want to improve (still failing tough lol)

Well, it looks like you are figuring it out now! Keep engaging and see how quickly things take off for you.

Your dRAMA changed my entire crypto life. Thank you for that!

Cheers~

Haha, sometimes I forget about Drama, that was fun and I'm happy to see several projects like it still going out there.

dRAMA initiated a new token economy top of Steem/Hive.

This is a fun one to do actually. 2016 already..Even I with my 2017 start would call you an OG then. It is remarkable how discord learned me so much and had so much to offer and people to meet in groups.

I dont know now if the vibe is different or I am just giving it less time. 'Corporate life' this sounds like suits, heels and pushing each other to the limits of thin air..or is this too black/white?

I enjoyed working for a .com startup for 15 years, we were acquired 5 times, and kept growing it was a great ride, but left me exhausted at the end.

GM!.

Good story.

GM, Fren

Your story is just amazing. Just staggering!! There was much difference between your and mine. I just heard about blockchain months ago. And after researching some days I first joined on hive. I have told my story on my first post here on hive. Anyway, Thanks a lot for sharing your facings and experience. Love to stay with you.

James Corbett, I hadn't heard of Jeff, until I joined.

I think that was me, I heard Jeff in time to still sign up when you had to have good karma on reddit to get an account.
I had to ask somebody to upvote me there so I could join steem.
It wasn't much longer and they made newbs give up a phone number.

Why is @azircon flagging this?
