Today is a monumental one! π
I have decided to officially launch a shiny new service that I believe will make Hive an immensely more friendly one! π
All the commenting I have been doing this week has got me thinking about an idea I had over a year ago! π‘
This idea is something that I think is going to make a HUGE DIFFERENCE in how we human on our blockchain. (If your not human... don't worry! This is still for you!) π½π©βππ€
This service gravitates around what makes communities stick, tick, and click everywhere on this planet! π
What is it!?
π’---COMMENTS!!!---π
Comments are what bring content to life. β€οΈ
Without comments a social environment is an uncaring one with no oxygen to breath. A vacuum. A black hole. π³
And you know this instinctively too right? β
You don't need a 6th sense to know this. 6οΈβ£
But maybe you haven't thought about it before... π§
So let's talk about why a comment matters... βοΈ
A comment is recognition on any social platform. π
It means that someone cared enough to actually look at your content and acknowledged the artifact you have left on the blockchain for immutable posterity.
[YOUR POST] πβοΈ ___"WOW! Look at THAT!!!"
And THIS certainly matters doesn't it? π
Because a post isn't just a blob of stuff floating aimlessly, the target of an unknown destination in the middle of nowhere, like a piece of space junk making it's way through the emptiness of space and time.......... π°π
It's your content! π πΈ πΉ
A badge you wear and care about! π
And you put your whole self into creating it right? πͺ
It's VALUBLE and you want people to VALUE IT! π
So content is the launch pad... π¦ 10...9...8...7... π π
But what brings it all to life...β
What provides the spark? π₯
It's a comment. π¬
Even a single one can keep you going like a spaceship slipping through space and time for day's on end! π
It actually translates into a very nice little equation.
Comments = Community.[period] βοΈ
Like a comet streaking through the sky and striking earth⦠A comment does the exact opposite! Wherever a comment touches down community springs up around it's impact site!
AND YOU KNOW WHAT!?
You can't have one without the other! β
In fact I would go so far as to say that a post's comments are a barometer of the over all health and well-being of the Hive Blockchain. (Spoken like a true personal trainer right!? hahaha! π)
And so it is in light of this concept that I decided to strike off on yet another Blockchain Adventure; a mission to add value to the comments section of peoples posts here on Hive.
AND we are going to call this mission...

OPPERATION
@COMET.RANKER π
The primary objective of this mission will be to:
- Rank comments on random posts throughout the blockchain.
- Support community, connection, AND friendliness on the blockchain.
- AND ping any unfriendliness that may be present on the blockchain.
All this will be done via an account I just registered today called @Comet.Ranker and will be done in my free moments as a way to do my part to improving the health and well-being of the Hive Blockchain.
So why do this?
Hive allows for the ranking of comments based on which ones have garnered the most love or are considered the most valuable to the communication on a given post.
Most of the time, when I click into a post, the first thing I notice is 1 of 2 things:
No comments at all. wamp wamp wammmmp! π
Comments with little to no love all jumbled into a big giant knot. βοΈβ
So why not do what I can to manually value, curate, and RANK what I think are the best, most insightful, sincere, thoughtful, exciting, interesting, informative, caring, and friendly of those comments?!
Personally, I think that it would be fun to discover and explore the blockchain on a mission like this!
...and I'm all about finding creative and fun ways to spread, "Good Wil"! π
What a perfect way to invest in people here on the blockchain and go where no man/woman has gone before!?
Or have they?
Am I the only one that enjoys reading, learning from, and ranking the comments of posts I read?
I donno?!
But it actually is really F.U.N.! Sort of like fitting a puzzle together with a big pay off at the end...

So that's the idea and this is the official post announcing the launch of this Hive Service! π
Will this be a profitable venture?

Ahhh probably not, to be honest...π€·ββ
But I can't think of anything right now that Hive needs more than adventurous people willing to throw themselves into the gaps that are sure to form on a decentralized platform like this one.
I can't think of anything more important than investing Financial Capital into Social Capital either... and THIS is, I think, a perfect way to do just that! It's what Hive does BEST!

I will begin by poweringUP 10,000 Hive (at first) to put actual weight behind this mission.

Interesting initiative.
Reddit has one of the most effective implementations of 'comment-encouragement' I've seen, so if I were 'running' Hive, I start with almost an identical implementation as reddit in this regard, and tweak from there.
In lieu of that, comet.ranker sounds like a solid start, props to you! π

I'm glad you saw this little brain child of mine. This last week (while on vacation no less!) was an intense one... I had to mount a response that would bring the conversation UP to a higher plane... and in a way that wasn't fighting fire with fire.
I really want to show people what a little generosity and Good Wil (or Good Jay! π)can do backed by the innovative Hive Blockchain and it's community of wonderful and amazing people!
But it all starts with thinking much much BIGGER than what's been currently happening... I think the price of Hive reflects this...
And so yes!
I'm here, once again, throwing myself (time, effort, care, capital, and tenacious skill) into the gaps here on this Blockchain.

Took you a while, btw is profitable, and is the nicest thing in the world, they have one hell of a banner and they have 3 curators going comment by comment, a discord channel where people points comments they saw and thinked: this is worth something alright. And one to you post your own (WIth time constrain to avoid spamming, 6 hours minimum)

One thing I noticed about the Hive blockchain community is that the reading level is not impressive. It's kind of disappointing to put out a content, expect readers and get none.

Comments are indeed an indispensable part of hive. A lot of originality stays hidden beneath those layers of threads. Things that were never said before and insights that were never ever discovered. Comments preserve the diversity and subjectivity of ideas and brings out the genuineness in people. They also test our ability to respond rather than react.
I thank and wish you all the success in your endeavours to make this platform a better place for all of us. Though we all are limited by our resources, situations and circumstances in distinct ways. I try to contribute in my own capacity for the greater good of the platform. Even the simplest of gestures like extending support and appreciating efforts can make a difference, I feel.

I really appreciate your ideas and intentions and the kind of work you are doing. It indeed radiates selflessness and geniunity. Though I agree we do all have some form of financial motive behind. As monetary considerations being such an integral part of this platform. But aligning them in ways to overall benefit, grow and make this platform a better place is not something everyone can do. Not everyone is ready lower 100% of the self interest to even 90 or 80%. While I feel you are working much below that threshold. And I heartily respect you for that. π

I agree completely! Supporting Engagement is a powerful way to improve posts! Making comments on posts in the Shadow Hunters Community, the Feathered Friends Community and Ladies of Hive Community gets ARCHON tokens as incentive for comments, and I have watched the quality of posts improve and accounts grow when they receive decent comments. Bravo! It will be fun to watch your project incentivize comments.

Getting people to actually talk is a good idea. More focused conversations definitely go a long way. Better discussions should be rewarded. A good discussion with thoughtful comments (including botted downvotes peppered throughout from a completely uninvolved party) shows that we can have that desired community and it shows the absurdity of those looking to get in the way of it.
It really is irrationally absurd isnβt it! Itβs gotten to the point where Iβm thinking we live in a mirror world. The people who have accounts on Hive but are loyal primarily to Steem(It) being the π» world. Yep! I said it! And Iβll stand by it because I think itβs an actual factor at play here... and the people who have accounts on Steem(It) but who are loyal primarily to Hive being the πΊ world.
Could this be the source of all this unfriendly spree of downvotes?
Quite possibly... yes.
At least itβs the only reason WHY I can think anyone would be short sighted enough to think that peppering the blockchain with downvotes (on perfectly good comments and posts no less!) could be good for this blockchain!

This is my constructive response to the looming problem and I hope that everyone sitsUP and pays special attention to making the Hive Blockchain a friendlier one beginning in the comments section of every post!
This is an opportunity for the truly good and brave on our blockchain to shine! And the imperative is NOW while we still have a blockchain worth fighting over!
Letβs all stop fighting with each other and start actually doing the things we all need to individually do to LEVEL UP our Hive Games!

Anyway! You are touching on a subject that is very dear to my heart. I know there have, and still are I am sure, various Engagement oriented leagues or initiatives. I won't TAG people, namely because I am terrible with names! But a comment is indeed such a precious thing on this or any platform. This is one of the positive notions we try to instill in new users joining the Blockchain, via the @theterminal Discord Group. True engagement... community... positive posting habits; all of these things might seem "second nature" but still not always prevalent. Nonetheless, I think what you are trying to do is a good thing, and I hope you are able to get that @comet.ranker going! I will share this with the other staff at The Terminal of course!
