Throwback Thursday Tree for @parul2411's #ThursdayTreeLove

in #hiveblopomo4 years ago (edited)

The last time I did a Thursday Tree Love post a couple weeks back, I mentioned that I was hoping to get some springtime blossoming trees for this edition. However, the weather hasn't been particularly cooperative and a planned jaunt out to get shots of trees around our neighborhood didn't go as planned yesterday, so I decided to have a "cheat" week (as in, I promised myself I'd get new shots for each TTL) and instead poke around in my archive for a Throwback Thursday Tree for today.

I actually devoted an entire post to this tree a couple years back, but I went further back in my archives and found some pictures soon after our landlady planted it back in 2015. The initial blossoms were glorious, even though my pictures back then didn't really do it justice. Mostly because of a combination between an older camera (it was before hubby got me my Nikon) and a rusty shutterbug (I was just starting to get back into photography around that time). I also found a handful of pictures from last April that I haven't shared before that I figured would make for an interesting comparison after five years.

One last thing before I get on with the pictures, many thanks as always, to my WordPress blogging friend Parul for hosting this awesome blog hop every couple of weeks. If you want to join in the Tree love blog hop fun, it's really easy - here's the description from her latest post today, called #ThursdayTreeLove – 107

Thursday Tree love is a photo feature hosted on this blog on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of a month. The next edition will go live on April 22, 2021. If you would like to play along, post a picture of a tree on your blog, tell me where did you spot the tree and link it back to this post.

If you don’t see the pingback, please leave a link to your post in my comments section. Please make sure that your post’s link is showing up on this latest edition. I will link your posts on my blog in the next edition and spread some love. Let’s come together to appreciate the beautiful nature around us.

Oh and these were taken in my Durham, NH yard on May 5th, 2015 with my old Olympus camera, and on April 29th 2020 with my Nikon. All were resized, then cleaned up a bit with PicMonkey. I also did a little bit of filtering here and there (mostly using the Vignette filter) on PM to help make up for the not-so-great camera work in 2015. 😜

Now on with the photos!

Throwback Thursday Tree from May 2015

Throwback Thursday Tree 2015
1. You would think, after all these years, I'd finally know what kind of tree this is.

2. However, in my early conversations with our landlady, she only knew it was an ornamental tree, and it was given to her and her husband after one of their adult sons passed.

3. That first year, it bloomed like crazy near the anniversary of his passing.

4. The cascade of blossoms looked even more amazing in person.

5. However, as you can see about five years later, that first winter was not kind, and our landlady ended up having to trim back a number of the branches.

6. But every time she thought the tree was done for, it would surprise everyone by blooming again.

7. It's still not back to its original glory...

8. ...but it's still blooming every year.

EDITED TO ADD: I talked to my landlady today (April 11th, 2021) and she said that yes, as @bdmillergallery suggested on Twitter, the tree is a Dwarf Weeping Cherry Tree. It's also unclear if it survived this past winter - there are a couple of new-looking shoots, but lots of seemingly dead branches. If it does bloom this year I'll be sure to post again.

Happy Thursday Tree Love, everyone!

Hi Traci! Sorry for the delayed response.. had a nice little vaca but now back to work. ugggg.. Thanks for the shout out and letting me know that this was in fact a weeping cherry (of some sort). I know they graft all of those fancy trees to another kind of root stock that is less susceptible to pests and disease. Vey pretty tree! I wish I had planted one for myself a good long while ago. I suppose I could still do it.. better late than never 😆
