IWB, ( InnerWebBlueprint.com ) is: a wordpress website factory, integrated with Hive, like a honeycomb within a honeycomb, full of resources, blueprints, instruction sets, examples, and tools to enable 'non techie' people to both - have, and be in complete control over, their own sovereign digital presence.
Hive, or 'the hive', as I like to refer to it, is the backbone of IWB, the piece that links everything else together. It's Soo perfect for that!
Now, let me backtrack for just a moment. IWB is not 'done' yet. It's not really even done enough yet for me to be talking about it. I don't much like to talk about things in 'future' tense. I prefer demonstrating with examples and functioning working models.
But I'm writing about this now because my laptop died on Friday morning and I'm stuck on my tablet until I get a replacement. So, do what you can with what you've got right 🐝! So even though I don't feel like it's done enough yet, I'm talking about it anyway!
IWB has three parts to it, red, green, and blue, 🟥🟩🟦.
The red part is done enough, and is working great. The red part is a 'containerized' setup of wordpress using a docker image, and storj as a distributed storage layer, to make the whole thing portable.
The docker container can be run anywhere a docker container will run… I originally built it to run on Akash, but it's actually cheaper, and more performant, to run it on something like linode or vultr. You can still run it on Akash though, and Akash is improving by the day!
For $10 a month (you need at least 2gb of ram) you can run a decent sized website on it with great front end performance. You can get excellent front end performance if you put cloudflare or some other CDN in front. (A 'big' website to me is 30mil uniques a month).
I will share some of my test results at some point, but all that data is on my dead laptop at the moment lol! Anyway, if you've got lots of 'backend', like lots of editors working at the same time, it's best to use a $20 or $40 a month sized instance… but I've got a wordpress site getting pretty good traffic, and 2 editors working at the same time, on a $10 a month linode with no complaints.
You can also scale it up and down too with the click of a couple buttons in 5 minutes or less! Well, there is one complaint, but it's about storj uploads from the media library being slow, and I plan to fix that soon enough, it's not that bad.
The whole thing backs itself up automatically. The database is backed up every hour, the functional files (all the php of wordpress and plugins) every 24 hours, and the media library (images, video, and whatever) are all 'backed up' from the point of upload as they are all stored on storj to begin with.
So the entire site is portable and can be restored very easily. Backups are auto pruned based on some sensible defaults to keep storage requirements low. I have one site with a 2gb database! (That's a lot of database for a wordpress site!)
In the future the whole thing will also have its own mail server setup, but that's pretty complex these days, and while email is still very much an excellent traffic source, it's a PITA!!! So I've got some 'free up to a point' solutions that are working well and making it to the inbox reliably for now. I may ditch email in favor of Hive notifications in the future depending on how that progresses! Exciting stuff!
Anyway, like I mentioned the red 🟥 part is done enough, it's working really well, I'm very pleased with it. I'm well into the green 🟩 part, but still a little ways to go.
The green part is a bunch of plugins to integrate some things together… specifically Hive, wordpress, and 'payment rails', to allow almost anything anyone wants… a simple blog, web store, physical products, digital products, memberships, clubs, your own personal garage sale website, whatever your imagination can come up with!
It's designed with HBD in mind as the primary currency, of course with the option to accept HIVE, Hive-Engine tokens, and even other crypto or regular credit cards (using stripe or the like). Every 'first purchase' is designed to include a Hive account, because it gives someone super powers! Hives are THE masters of group intelligence, and being a part of one is priceless!
Like I mentioned, this is where I'm currently at, building out the 🟩 parts, the plugins and functionality to enable all of this… and one of the super cool parts, actually the main reason I'm building on Hive, is I'm integrating NFT's, and wallet holdings as selectable criteria for 'access' or permissions… like for example, you could make a Byzantine Kitty website club, where if someone holds a Kitty card, they get access to special kitty things… meta-verse style (there will be a site for that!!! 🐱😽🙀😻).
Work with what you got 😂!!
So, what's different about all this, IWB? Well, aside from it being built as a 'distributed' model instead of 'de-centralized' model, is that I'm building it as a tool for me to use… that I'm also going to make available for anyone else to use too. In other words, I'm not building a product to sell, I'm building a tool to use.
There is a huge difference between those two things…
I will be giving most of it away too… not all of it… I need to eat too, (and replace broken laptops lol) but enough for anyone to get started with almost no money.
I've been there, starting from scratch, with almost nothing, and it's incredibly difficult to start at near 0. It's easier if you have friends, but good friends can be hard to come by, especially when your at the bottom. (Unless you are on Hive! I've made some awesome amazing friends here on Hive!)
I will have some courses for some more advanced stuff too, but everything someone needs to get up and running will be free. (Except for $10 a month hosting through the provider of your choice, and you can even get some free hosting with referral promotions from vultr and linode!) because I want to make it as easy as possible and accessible for anyone to get started.
Everyone has an inner blueprint inside them that is meant to be shared with the world in some way, and that's beautiful… I believe that everyone has genius inside them, and our job as humans is to help each other bring out that brilliance to share with the world. I truly believe that. That, to me, IS the only practical way to 'change the world' into a better place.
I'm no stranger to starting from scratch either. My life has been upended more times than I care to admit. It's made me insistent on solid foundations, things that don't break, things that are reliable, trustworthy, resilient, redundant. I have back plans, and even backup plans, for the backup plans these days.
But frankly, that's hard to do without enough resources. Backup plans make everything 2x expensive, and backup plans of backup plans are another 2.5x on top of that. Redundancy and resiliency are extra expensive together, and you need both to ensure continuity. So I'm making some really solid, stable stuff, that runs well and is still very inexpensive.
I think I also watched too much star trek when I was a kid too, but that's a whole different story lol!!
God bless the para-noids - they always have a backup plan, that's why they come in pairs!
Ok, I haven't even gotten to describing the blue 🟦 parts yet, but my thumbs are cramping from typing on my tablet, and it's about out of batteries to boot… so I will save the description of the blue parts for later… but I'll say this much right now… what good is a website if no one visits it?
The blue parts 🟦 💦🌊⛲ 🌊🌀💠 are pretty magical, all about traffic and flow… and that's the really fun part… blue is like the water that makes things grow…
Ok that's enough for now, my fingers are going numb!
May God bless and keep you, bring you joy and strength, introduce you to many good friends, and make life's burdens easily bearable, bountiful, beautiful, and see you through the hard times. We must be each other's light in these times of darkness, and besides, together is almost always better 🌈, especially in 'the hive'!!
More soon!
