RE: Announcing Four New Speakers for HiveFest and introducing Conference Venue Day 2!

in #hivefest5 months ago

I don't really understand the point of this event anymore. Is it just for founders, devs?

Because if not, why don't you take it to Ghana, Nigeria, Venezuela, India???

Everywhere I check Hive front-ends traffic, it shows, less and less activity from western countries, and more from the above.

I have no problem, if you guys try to build community, gain users from lower developed countries, small DHF money also goes for events in those countries, so why don't you take this Hivefest there?

I mean, except rally car (what will bring zero users), you pretty much gave up reaching, gaining western users, who could possible still could spend some for Hive, zero online targeted ads, programs reaching western people, basically nothing goes for that from DHF yearly $500k+.

So, then once again, why don't you take this event to Africa, Asia, South-America? I mean, if you want to gain users from there, then go there!

Sort:

Hivefest was held in Mexico last year but I think not many people in general attended.

I'm sure the organisers would love more people to attend, but if you look at local meetups in general, I don't believe anything has ever happened in countries like Nigeria or India that you mentioned. I'm not sure if the users aren't interested or if the cost of domestic travel makes it unaffordable for many. In which case, holding Hivefest there wouldn't make any difference.

You also have to consider logistics for the organisers and attendees, such as visa requirements, general safety, political and economic stability. Visa applications to Nigeria needs a letter of invitation from the host, who can provide that in Nigeria? Venezuela has hyper inflation making budgeting very difficult.

In my opinion, Hivefest is less about gaining new users but more about retaining users. I don't know if you've been to a Steem or Hive Fest before but I find many attendees aren't very active on Hive but they enjoy the face to face annual meetup. Many aren't devs, just users who value the friendship developed on the chain and are keen for Hive to keep going.

That's just strange for me, I supposed, it's part of the reason why you make this event year to year. I mean gaining new users.

thx for info.

Hi!

so this is a difficult challenge "where to have next HiveFest". Imho it should be across the world and this is were they where at:

  • 2016 Amsterdam (EU) (SteemFest 1)
  • 2017 Lisbon (EU) (SteemFest 2) (originally scheduled for USA, but altered)
  • 2018 Krakow (EU) (SteemFest 3)
  • 2019 Bangkok (ASIA) (SteemFest 4)
  • 2020 Online VR
  • 2021 Online VR
  • 2022 Reset: Amsterdam (EU) (Hivefest 7)
  • 2023 Rosarito, Mexico (LATAM) (HiveFest 8)
  • 2024 Split, Croatia (EU) (HiveFest 9)

One HiveFest each year. Where to go next. Ofcourse the event should travel. So Europe this year, .... next? Africa, a great suggestion!

Where are you from and are you attending?

I am in Europe, I am not asking for myself. I won't attend. I just see the trend, less and less western people are around on Hive, and I also see the main direction now is trying to get new users from less developed areas, the very little ads, marketing I see, all in those areas (africa, asia, s-america), so why don't you take it there?

probably - except travel cost from europe, north am - it's a lot cheaper, too and can reach a lot more people, who are in the new target group.
