My Monster Hunter Wilds Thoughts

in #hivegaming14 days ago

Hunting after a long day is oddly relaxing... Even if the monsters put up a good solid fight. The thing I like about Monster Hunter is that the monsters, weapons, locales, and items to use are unique enough that the game can be as simple as a hack and slash or be more complex with utility.

It's fun seeing other hunters outfits and weapon types but at this point, almost a month after release with only a few additions being added, everybody has obtained the gear they want, the skill gems they needed, and the style they were going for in terms of clothing choice and color. obtaining everything was inevitable even if many other hunters weren't the type to blaze through the game as quickly as possible.

The sense of progression is gone and I fear that the future monsters that become available to hunt won't present a challenge because we've been constantly upgrading and fine-tuning while the threat level of the monsters are already at a limit that players have broken with what is currently available.

It's not that the game is easy per-se, the quality of life aspects added over the years has definitely streamlined many of the processes that made Monster Hunter feel like a semi-strategy action game, but I think that the game doesn't have a cap or block that prevents the player from advancing beyond the point of 'overpowered'.

It's not that the player shouldn't or won't reach that point but the power level should be unlocked as the challenge grows and the content released fills out more of the game.

Like real life, our boundaries are limited until we have to raise our limits to deal with something new or unknown... (Or like an Anime!)

When I am playing Monster Hunter Wilds there is no 'pressure' when fighting a monster. There is no thought of 'I should retreat and recover' or 'I could perform my combo without getting hit'.

This is definitely me joining the choir about current discussions about Monster Hunter Wilds feeling too easy but there are always previous Monster Hunter entries I could go back to if I want to experience a more difficult time.

This is the 'next' generation of Monster Hunter though and perhaps Capcom wants the game to reach more audiences. I also understand that generations have their gripes about the new things being easier as these similar thoughts are discussed by many of the previous generation of Hunters.

Still a solid game, still a fun setting, but perhaps I need to stop expecting the 'challenge' that Monster Hunter used to represent and instead focus on the other elements of the game that have improved.
