Imagine how easy life would have felt if we use our little gestures to influence others positively? That one act of kindness, showing respect to others, smiling with genuine interest, giving a helping hand when you can, saying thank you to show appreciation, complimenting another honestly.... are all gestures with true impacts.
These small gestures are everyday things we barely pay attention to. I am going to tell you a story about my simply basic, almost unnoticeable gesture, that got me my current job.
It all started around late 2021 when I was on a job hunt after the company I was with folded out.
At the time I was in Kumasi
for a short stay as I was jobless and also I missed home too.
I saw a vacancy one day on either Jobberman or LinkedIn, for a job in Accra. I applied and got scheduled for an interview in 2days time, that was fast. My excitement was just out-of-the-world.
I gathered my luggage and came back to Accra and attended the interview.
I got the Job and even went for the two weeks training as a requirement. I started working officially and on my first day, I noticed things stated in the contract was different from the reality. I turned down the offer eventually and came to being jobless again.
There was one gentleman who couldn't complete the training , he left without saying a word to any of us. We exchanged contacts at the beginning so I
decided to call and and find out whether he was alright.
That one phone call, was all it took. He was impressed I reached out although we didn't really speak much to each other during the training.
He told me he had a job already but he works from home, and due to his flexible time he wanted a 2nd job.
Fast forward, I told him about everything that happened when he left and why I declined the contract.
He said "Angie, don't worry, my company will start recruitment soon , I will send you details later.
He did! I applied and got the job, he helped me to find my bearings at work.
Although he is no longer with the company, I still am. I will be 2years in December.
I never stopped showing my appreciation, interestingly, his wife is now with the company. When she came back from her maternity leave, I helped her to catch up on things she missed out.
One simple gesture, can make a bigger impact.
Very well said, simple gesture could help both of you. You helped and he helped and you helped again his wife. Keep the attitude of being kind.
Thanks dear... I have been offline for a while. Just saw your comment
