The political process is in full swing. Elections are set to take place. Houses of worship have started up again. The airfields are open. A market is open. However, the typical Nigerian child is still doing tire rolling and hasn't been in a classroom since at least March. We wonder exactly who insulted kids in this politically volatile nation as there is no plan by the government for the continuation of their education.
When will school be active??
If the government doesn't prioritize education, the future we wish to create for our children will be worse than the one we currently have. It is said that a stitch in time can save nine. To save our education from complete collapse, the government must concentrate and refocus all of our physical and intellectual energy from complete chaos and, in doing so, protect the future we want.
In many ways, ignoring the education of the current generation of Nigerians would jeopardize their country's future success. But who honestly gives a damn? How well we educate the next generation will decide how far our nation advances in the future. It is obvious that our society's future is unknown or could be sad given the neglect or almost complete collapse of education in Nigeria. Intractable insecurity in different parts of Nigeria and poverty, which prevents many Nigerians from affording a proper education, have made the situation in the education sector worse. Stakeholders no longer have any faith in our educational system.
In addition to potentially fueling insecurity, crime, and complete reliance on the government for survival, the children we choose not to educate today will pose a threat in the future. They would also have provided more productivity had we chosen to educate them. A "state of emergency" in our educational system needs to be declared right away. To address some of the challenges that endanger the future of Nigeria's youth, we must pool our ideas, talents, skills, and resources. Policy and money are only two aspects of the problem. To raise the standard of teachers and engage in ongoing evaluation and retraining, we must concentrate on their education. No rewards for teachers ought to be based on their effectiveness with students, personal growth, and quality for instruction. We must offer them the instructional materials and rewards they require in order to perform well.
Teachers must receive every possible financial and psychological incentives from the government. Governments must ringfence their perks and remuneration in both the federal and state budgets and never tolerate a scenario in which they are owed money. Teachers must receive their reward "on earth, not in paradise." They should receive timely payments from the government that equal a decent wage. In order to retain the greatest teachers and keep up with economic realities, the government must examine teacher compensation profession.
With the extended strike throughout the nation, governments at all levels have a callous attitude regarding the educational problem. They have not offered any better suggestions for organizing education to give our children the necessary quality. Education policies are either unfit for purpose or not producing the anticipated results, and if there are institutions for overseeing education, they are at best dormant. With all of these outlined, the government may enhance the education sector very efficiently and successfully.
