I live in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. May you know that Dhaka is one of most crowded cities in the world. In this city moving from one place to another place is a great hassle. In this city almost everytime there are traffic in the roads. From mammoth container to little cycle what's not in ghe road. Footpaths are also blocked incase you want to walk. People have to spend a significant amount of time sitting in traffic jams It cannot be overstated what a horrible experience it is to sit in a jam due to jams.It is not possible to reach anywhere at certain times. So, when you go out somewhere, the first thing that comes to your mind is the jam, and you get panicked.

The worst traffic jam I witness :

In a weekend me with my mom planned to go to my aunt's house. Her house was in Mirpur which was maybe 25 km far. So our plan was fixed .We packed our bag. We had a plan for 3 days staying in my aunt's home as there was an extra two days holiday. We set out in the afternoon. We hired an CNG (a three wheel vehicle). Generally it took one and half hour to reach Mirpur. Just running for 5 minutes we faced traffic jam.We took it simply . Definitely we never expect without any jam reaching our destination .So we are waiting for the time jam being cleared. But it didn't happen.Yes for few seconds vehicles were moving forwad. But again for a long time, the same situation existed. After one hour we were in Mirpur.Mirpur!! No, just kidding. We were around one kilometer away from our home. Can be say, we were in our home almost. We were sweating badly . The disgusting smell of vehicles was grasping us. We wear feeling vomiting. My little sister already vomited multiple times. A good journey gradually turned into trauma. After one and half hour, we are almost there where we were before one hour. Then we give up hope. We paid half of the money then got out of CNG.We backed to home by foot. After walking some time,we took a rickshaw and back to home.Took the dinner and went to bed. What a terrible experience it was.

It is like a traffic jam city. Due to traffic congestion in this city of large population, the life of the people is miserable as well as the country is suffering economically.

"Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by the traffic from both sides.

Margaret Thatcher"

Reasons of the traffic jam:

A modern city needs to have 20 to 25 percent roads or streets of the total area. But Dhaka has only six to eight percent which is only one-third compared to the requirement. On the other hand, according to the information available from the traffic department, at least 30 percent or more of that road is occupied by illegal parking and there are various types of encroachment. On the other hand, according to the calculations of the Strategic Transport Plan (STP), currently more than 15 percent of passengers in Dhaka travel by private vehicle.More than 70% of the roads are occupied by these private cars. The remaining 85 percent of passengers use some other form of public transport. That is, they get the opportunity to use only 30% of the public transport road. Apart from that, 80% of the cars are parked on the roads during office and business hours, which doubles the traffic congestion. Thus this city is dead for traffic.

Solution from my perspective:

So what's the solution? Sitting in the traffic I tried to find out why it happens.

■ Both the city mayors of Dhaka have to make footpaths passable as well as compel pedestrians to cross the road at specific points and obey traffic signals or use overbridges.

■ Minibus service rickshaws on bus routes should be stopped from plying on main roads by imposing ban on Tempu, Laguna type vehicles.Apart from banning parking on main roads, sidewalks should be covered by CCTV and illegal parking should be recorded and fines should be collected.

■ The traffic police should be more strict in bringing the traffic violators/violators to justice. Police should be given priority to remove unfit vehicles from roads.

■ Automatic traffic signaling system should be introduced. If the river around Dhaka is used, the pressure on the road will be reduced.

■ Dhaka city is attracted by the attraction of employment, security, good schools and quality healthcare. In the medium term, model schools and advanced medical centers should be established in village areas, especially in each union. Upazila health centers should be adequately budgeted.Special emphasis should be placed on reducing the number of private vehicles.

■ Every bank and company should make it mandatory to provide big coaches instead of personal cars to the officers. All the schools in Dhaka must compulsorily arrange buses or big coaches for the students. Especially private universities. Social and economic decentralization has become very important in order to reduce the pressure on Dhaka city to reduce the number of vehicles.

■ Apart from this, attention should be paid to the river route. There is a need to increase the amount of wetlands in the city of Dhaka, and focus on water communication. Many believe that the expanded wetlands will also help decongest and beautify the city's roadways.

Our time is precious. It should not be wasted in traffic jam.I hope this city be traffic free very soon. We can move freely without any panic.
