Installation of carpet

• Remove the old carpet

If you already have a carpet then first you have to get rid of the old carpet and then start the installation. Before removing the carpet, make sure to vacuum it properly so that you do not breathe dust when you pull it out. Use a knife and then cut the carpet into strips of around 18 to 24 inches wide. In some cases, the padding can be used for the new carpet.

• Clean the floor properly

Before installation make sure to clean the floor properly. The surface should be smooth and free from dust. It is better to use a vacuum for the cleaning purpose.

• Underpad

Put the padding down in strips. Don’t overlap them. If there is any excess then trim it completely. With the help of a duct tape seal the seams.

• Climatize the new floor carpet

If you are installing a new carpet then it will shrink with temperature and with the pressure of air. Bringing the new carpet and installing it right away will shrink it from the tackless strips or it may get buckle up in the middle. You can get rid of this problem by keeping the carpet uninstalled in a room for at least 24 hours. This way it will remain the same according to the dimensions you will cut the carpet into.

• Carpet measurement

You should start with a piece that overlaps the edge of the floor by at least 4 to 6 inches. This way you can trim the excess carpet and it will fit properly.

• Set the seams

Once the carpet edges join you will have to create a seam there. They should be placed correctly and straight. Under the seam place a piece of seaming tape and then heat it up with the recommended temperature. Then slowly move the iron with the tape. Then behind the iron press the seam into the melted glue. You can place heavy objects on the steam so that it can hold it more properly.

• Attaching the carpet

To attach the carpet use knee kicker along the edges and it is a metal tool of about 18 inches. Place the toothed end of the tool on the carpet at about 3 inches from the wall and drive your knee along with it. This way it will stretch the carpet over the strips and hold it very firmly. Work with this method along the entire room.
