Everyone in our household likes home made juices and cordials, syrups.
This is one that all our children like, it is made with beetroot, carrots and lemons.
Basic recipe is as follows:
1 kg of beetroot
1 kg of carrots
1 kg of lemons
200 grams of citric acid (granuls or liquid)
5 ltrs of water
5 kg of sugar
Grate up the beetroot and carrots
The lemon needs to be in slices.
Add 200 grams of citric acid
then add 5 ltrs of water
mix and then leave for 24 hours
after that pour through a cheese cloth, or fine strainer
then add 5 kg of sugar
Stir well until the sugar can not be seen
then leave for another 24 hours
after that, bottle it and keep in a cool, dark place.
For those who like sweet drinks, they can drink it as as, most people like to mix it with water, like a cordial drink.
Total produced with the above recipe is about 9 ltrs.
Try it, I am sure you will be surprised how tasty it is.
My children love it.
Thank you for reading.
Wow, thats a lot of sugar for 9 ltr of drink!
And another thing - how long can you store it, since its not been heated when bottled?
