I live in a smaller city in the prairies of Canada, and I was underwhelmed with the public schools in my city, and found myself in a position to either have to put my daughter in a crowded classroom, or begin homeschooling.
A few emotional breakdowns later, I decided to take on homeschooling with the help of my mother in law. My mom in law has an education degree, as well as a Montessori degree so I really am in great hands to have her as a mentor, and be able to help me with the curriculum. She also had her own Montessori preschool so I had all the Montessori materials to be able to start.
Here are a few examples of what we are working on!
These are the Montessori counting beads we are using. My daughter loves the different colors!
We went over her numbers with her and got her to count from 11-19 with the wooden squares, and place them on the board.
Lastly, we got her to count and place the correct number of beads beside each number!
Like I said, my mom in law had these Montessori materials at her disposal from her teaching days, but this would be such a fun DIY project that could be made by hand. Instead of the Montessori beads, you could easily make your own with dollar store beads, or use something as fun as mini pom poms! The great thing about Montessori is that you can get the method and adapt it to your liking.
I've even created my own Montessori materials using all dollar store materials! My daughter loves them. Educational and inexpensive! I will do a post on that later.
Hope this was useful in some way, and please share any homeschooling, or alternative school tips you have and Montessori ideas! I'm so happy to join the Steemit community! <3
