Should you start homeschooling?

It all starts with the mindset

As a parent who grew up from traditional school set up, I am a bit hesitant at first to the idea in getting my child in homeschooling.

What I have in mind is that I am very busy in doing many things such as household chores, attending to my business, taking care of my partner, etc. Therefore, I said, “I won’t be able to take such a big responsibility of educating my child at home.”

I used to have that thinking that I will exert my effort in earning money so I can send my child to school for x number of years. Sacrifice my time for my family just to get more so I can provide more for her school.

After that, I will let everything up to the teachers and the school administrators to take care of my child’s development.

Nevertheless, I found out that I was wrong. Because doing such things will surely affect the most important things for my family than what I expect as years goes by.

Possible drawbacks

As I observe our society today, I can see a big challenge in keeping a strong family relationship. In addition, as a mom, I should be one of the first person to act on it.

your traditional mindset for schooling unnoticeable post a competition of building better relationships to teachers and friends rather than to parents and siblings.

Why? Because traditional schooling give them more time together, more activities together, more laughter together, and other things which our child should be doing with us.

As I talked to parents like me, I can hear their sentiments about their broken relationships with their children even though they knew that they are doing everything to provide for their needs.

However, parenting is more than the capability our sending them to a good school. That is what homeschooling can teach us. It is building a strong bond to our family while they are still under our custody. Thus, when they are in the right age to settle on their own, we are confident that we have given them a strong foundation.

Parents can even come to a point when it seems like they do not knew their children anymore. Their behavior, language, attitude, and other things that are already under the influence of people outside our families.

My turning point

As I have read some articles and talked to friends who are doing homeschooling, I was so amazed with how it can help me to be the best mother that I can be through homeschooling. It also made me realize that my previous mindset makes me missed the best things in life as a mother.

There are so many benefits of homeschooling, which you can look into and see how it can convince you to do it.

One of my most favorite benefits is it gives me the chance to spend a quality time with my family without sacrificing my passion for my home business.

I can be maximize my potential not only as a mother but also in my chosen field of expertise without risking my family relationship.

First, I would like to highlight that homeschool is not only a form of education to your child, but rather a lifestyle. For example for a mom of an infant like me, I should not wait for my child to reach 3-5 years old to start educating her. Because homeschooling approach provides strategies which I can apply starting from 0 age.

If you are a mom who would like to know how to apply the homeschooling approach from 0-11 years old, you can check out this book One-to-one: A Practical Guide to Learning at Home Age 0-11 by Gareth Lewis.

As a mom, I believe that my child’s first few years is the most essential in building her up mentally, emotionally, and socially. And nothing can do it better than homeschooling approach.

But what if your child is already in teenage years? Is it too late for you to let them experience the benefits of homeschooling? The answer is no.

Homeschooling provides approaches to whatever age they are. There are also plenty of resources for you today which are proven to help you how to it. If you have children age 11-18 years old you can check Unqualified Education: A Practical Guide to Learning at Home Age 11-18 by Gareth Lewis.

Why you should start homeschooling your child today? Because it is never too late for you to give one of the best things for them. You do not want to delay it because best things for our child should be given as soon as we have the means to do it.
