The New Seven Wonders of the World

In 2007, more than 100 million people voted to crate the New Seven Wonders of the World list. The following list is in no particular order and meant to represent global heritage.

  • Great Wall of China - built between the 5th century BCE and up to the 16th century CE. It is a stone and earth fortification, meant to protect China from invasion. It is about 4000 miles long, making it the single largest structure built by humans.

  • Roman Colosseum - built between 70-80 CE in Rome to house gladiator battles. It sat 50 000 people.

  • Christ the Redeemer Statue(Rio De Janeiro) - built in 1931. It overlooks the city of Rio. It is 130 feet high and sits on the top of a hill.

  • Machu Picchu (Peru) - an ancient Incan city of granite in the Andes Mountains, built in the mid 1400's CE.

  • Taj Mahal (Agra, India) - built for the dead wife of an Mogul emperor between 1632-48 CE.

  • Chicen Itza (Mexico) - built by the Mayans as a trading city. It flourished around 800-1200 CE.

  • Petra (Jordan)- a temple/city carved into a stone cliff. It was an oasis in the desert.
