Introduction to Bobblehead Homestead - (with short video hello)

in #homestead7 years ago (edited)

Hey folks, it's the Peoria Dude. That's my channel on YouTube, anyway, but I will be retiring the Peoria Dude name when I move to my new homestead. My real name is Jeff Trigg, and I've decided to call my property Bobblehead Homestead. Glad to be joining and learning more about steemit.

I just bought 2.8 acres in Waveland, Arkansas at the end of June 2017. For $5,000. With electricity, a water well, an old mobile home, and a couple sheds. I'll be moving there from my home state of Illinois as soon as I figure out where I'll sleep and poop. Then I hope to use the opportunities that the property provides to earn a living, eat healthier, meet like-minded folks, continue to learn, and improve the land. It'll be an epic adventure, one way or another, and I will try to share it here.

A little about me. I came up with the name Bobblehead Homestead because I have a noticeable head tremor due to Parkinson's Disease. My head bobbles. Like one of those bobblehead toy thingies. I was diagnosed at 35 and am 46 now. I'm not able to do things I used to do, and I'm somewhat limited physically, but life goes on. My income opportunities have become limited, and I am not receiving any type of government benefits currently. So if I can raise some pigs and grow some flowers to make some income, all the better.

EDIT: Adding a video intro here. 1 min 35 sec

Here's a list of some things I've done or been involved with. I'm not normal.
Played tuba, trumpet, piano, sang, & danced in high school which helped pay my way through college.
Was the President of my fraternity for two years and graduated with a business degree.
Worked as a 3rd shift hotel clerk after graduation, and worked my way up to manage several Marriott hotels around the country.
Born and raised just outside of Peoria, IL, but I've lived in Oregon, IL, Decatur, IL, Johnson City, TN, Evanston, IL, Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA, Sacramento, CA, Bloomington, IL, Champaign, IL and now I'm off to Yell County, Arkansas.
Was an air filter salesman in central IL, from regular furnace filters to hospital surgical rooms to electronic manufacturing clean rooms. It was fascinating, actually.
Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Illinois. Please don't get me started about politics, especially concerning IL.
Campaign Manager for 2 US Senate candidates, including Jerry Kohn running against Barack Obama in 2004.
Legalization of cannabis activist, advocate for the removal of taxes on poor people (as a start), anti-war protester, Federal Reserve critic, champion of making election laws and access to our ballots equal for all, and generally a live and let live kind of dude.
Big fan of the movie The Big Lebowski.

I've been doing some YouTube videos for a few months, if you care to check them out. That's where I heard about steemit, mostly from @mericanhomestead and @texasboys, so thanks to them. I'm always looking for and learning from like-minded people, so I think I've found the right place to expand my horizons with steemit.

This is the view two miles down the dirt road from my new place. Bring your fishing poles and a chainsaw and we'll make a day of it. tour 213.JPG

And always use a wind filter. :)

Welcome Bobbleheadstead! So glad you are on steemit. We are following you now can't what for the next post. We upvoted this post. My Mom says you will be our "Politics Teacher" here on Steemit! No pressure LOL

Uh oh, I don't know about that. The intersection of homesteading/farming and politics is an interesting niche to explore, thanks for that idea. Joel Salatin's "Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal" was eye-opening for me on that topic. Thanks @texasboys, for the inspiration to give this a try!

Hey Peoria Dude! its Devin from Hewett Homestead! Good to see you here! Dont know if youve figured this thing out yet or not but dont go crazy upvoting everything..you will run out of steem and not be able to upvete for a while. try to build networks. there are a lot of good ones to get with here,.. TTYL

Rookie mistake. I did figure it out when I saw some value go from .90 to .80. This is different I'll have to get used to it. I'll chalk it up to wanting to make a good first impression. Thanks for the tips, and feel free to keep them coming.

You'll see a few familiar faces around here. Good to have another homesteader on board.

Yes, and I hope to meet new ones on here too. Liking it so far, thanks for the support.

Welcome aboard Dude! Great to have you over here

Thank you TexasBoys! Lots to learn still, I'm glad you pointed me this way.

Welcome to Steemit !!!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Welcome to Steemit. I know you'll have a lot of great info to share with everyone on here. :)

I will certainly try. I blogged every day about Illinois politics for a few years and swore it off, but this platform with a homestead looks promising. Thanks, that's cool your trying ti out also.

Hey! I know you!!! Congrats on the sweet deal in land!! How'd you pull that one off?! Following.

Thank you. Your recent video on steemit was another motivating factor for me, so we can blame you also in the future. :) I've got a 4 Tips How I Bought A Homestead For $5,000 video that I should totally use for a written blog post here, thanks for the idea. Lowered expectations was the main reason I pulled that off.

Congratulations on the land and welcome to steemit, Go slow don't try to remember everything, get out and meet and interact with folks here and remember this is a LARGE community! Lions Mane tincture has shown some awesome healing with Parkinson's. Resteemit for followers to meet you..

Hello weetreebonsai, thanks for the support and wise advice. The bigger the audience the better, or something like that.

Hi mate looks like you have it all under control. Hope you make a few buck on steemit, much easier than squeezing youtube for that rock blood.
Cheers .

Thank you, but I assure I don't have much under control. :) I hope I can make a little extra also, but I'm pretty sure I'll find new ideas and learn how to do some new things which will make it worth it.

I'm sure you will mate, it's a learning curve is all, you need any help let me know, I created the Homestead Life community to help with things like that. So drop me a line or join if you want, it's free and you will get real help.
But you will work it all out in the end, just takes longer on your own is all.
Cheers mate

good man! Thank you sir! Keep up the good work :-)

Thank you, we are glad to help new steemit users who are putting in good effort! I look forward to seeing more from you, I would seriously consider getting into a small homestead situation like you are doing!

Welcome to Steemit, Friend! Glad you found the place! I'm a new homesteader and I am anxious to watch your progress! Im sorry you're not getting the benefits you need and I hope you're able to make Arkansas work for you! I don't know the cannabis legalization in Arkansas but I hope it's progressing well! Are you currently using it to help your Parkinson's? I have heard good things! Anyway! Welcome from Oregon! Glad to be following you! Good luck with your move!

Thank you very much for the friendly greeting. I have some relatives around Arkansas, but otherwise I wouldn't have minded going back out to the northwest. Arkansas was the first "southern" state to pass a medical cannabis referendum, and its just now being implemented so time will tell. Illinois has a program, but its horrible, and it sounds like Arkansas is using a lot of the same restrictions that IL has.

So no, I'm not currently using it for help, except when I visit Colorado. When I lived in Seattle and Sacramento working for legalization, that was a different story. :) It does have some very beneficial effects for some people with Parkinson's, but not for everyone. And not all varieties work the same either. Maybe I should write about that more here. Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting more great folks here.

It's legal all around here in Oregon now. Thankfully. I am so glad it can help so many people in my life with their "issues" especially pain! That is real good to hear about Arkansas tho! Hopefully it will get better quickly!

Be sure to check out @pennsif, they've got a nice list of homesteaders and preppers in one of their posts that I think you'd love looking through and finding more people to follow. :)

Thanks for that recommendation, I see lots of posts that interest me already, followed.

Followed you from thl

Thank you and welcome.

Greetings @bobbleheadstead, it's nice to meet new Steemers. Feel free to ask questions and to follow me.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm enjoying finding lots of great content here.

Welcome to steemit! I'm sorry to hear about your parkisons. I work in physical therapy and have worked with lots of parkinsons patients. It sounds like you have a real positive attitude and grip on life. You've gained a follower. Hope you enjoy yourself here. It's a great community

Thanks, that's great you can help them with their quality of life. I can see that PT can be really helpful. I'm trying to stay positive and keep my grip, which is half the battle they say. I'm really appreciating the friendly welcomes and enjoying the new people here, thank you.

That's very true. The mental outlook is a huge part of it. Let me know if you ever have any physical therapy questions maybe i can help.

That's very kind, thank you.

You're quite welcome

hello there sir the name threw me for a loop lol I too first heard about steemit from @mericanhomestead but it was during a live stream with @daddykirb (blake kirby on yt) with a link to steemit and the proper spelling of the site :) wow not only did you move around you've done loads of different types of work well done :) good luck in all you do sir :D

HEY!!! Good to see you on Steemit. Yep, using this time before moving to do as much networking as I can. I'm gonna need all the good ideas and advice I can get to start out on the right foot.

Welcome to the community. your introduction was very nice. Followed. Follow me back 😘

Can't wait to see the progress. I'm originally from Oklahoma and my son is now going to college in Arkansas. I'm not sure if you had chiggers in IL but invest in chiggaway. Those things itch. lol

WELCOME! Thank you. Great advice about the chiggers. My grandparents lived in Arkansas and we came down every summer, so I learned about them the hard way as a kid. Several times. :) I think I'm gonna invest in some guineas first thing, they're suppose to eat them.

Good to see you over here on Steemit, been watching you on YT for a while. One of the first videos I remember you were sharing your lunch with a bald eagle. Great stuff!

lol we are not in short demand of eagles.
Thanks for watching the videos. I just subbed your YT channel. We were either moving to Oklahoma, where I'm from or Alaska, where the wife is from. She won of course but I love it here. I'm glad we made the decision.
Guineas is probably a good idea.
I know you said you were all packed up. So when will you be in Arkansas.

Missed your payout range, but still wanted to drop a line saying congrats on your land purchase and I'm following you to see how things go.
