STONES FOR STEPS
I am currently working in Alton Illinois and am in the process of rebuilding a wall that was leaning badly.
As the wall was being removed we quickly realized quite a bit of the stone was not in "pretty" enough shape to reuse in the wall. This means they have to be disposed of. We have placed to dispose of such stuff...but not this time....
Instead of it being used to fill in a ditch somewhere, I will be cleaning these guys up and using them to build a stone staircase...so into my truck they went...
A LIT OF GOOD STUFF
In addition to the stones I got from this job, I also got quite a bit of dirt(2 truck loads) and a bunch of gravel(about a truckload). This saves us around 300-600 dollars in goods that won't have to be bought. And while I need a lot more dirt and gravel to build the garden AND the driveway, it's a great start!
We are facing temperatures below freezing so the material had to be taken straight to the homestead so it wouldn't freeze into one big chunk in the back of the truck. So I delivered it to the homestead and unloaded it all.
UPCOMING HOMESTEAD EVENTS
Within the next few weeks the garden at our house will be started. We do not live at the homestead yet, so I fear putting a garden in there will result in nothing more then free food for all our little critter friends that live in the wild. We will be putting out a very small garden at the homestead for these guys, but more just so we will have the opportunity to watch the little guys.
Between the two gardens we will have a few types of tomatoes and corn. We will have watermelons and peas and cantaloupe. We will also plant potatoes and a few other foods as well. We will be canning most of what we produce for storage. Doing this will help save money in the long run.
We will also be felling more trees and prepping them for use as lumber to build our home. We will need between 75-100 trees to build all we plan on building so this by itself will be a massive amount of work.
Do any of you do any gardening and if so what are your favorite plants to plant and to eat? Have you ever created something from raw materials? If so, please let me know in the comments below!
As always thank you all for your continued love and support! We appreciate it and send all our love in return.

It's always good to get stuff for the homestead for free!
Absolutely! And with each freebie, we will be one step closer to being self sustaining and in a better position to help others.
Miss Ivy has a garden box that she likes to grow different things in. She had some great success with some delicious home grown peas recently. We just need to decide what to plant next.
Evan lives watching the plants grow as well. But i think this year he will really enjoy the rabbits and chickens that we will be getting.
Congratulations, your post has been selected to be included in my weekly Sustainability Curation Digest for the Minnow Support Project.
Thank you so much friend! We truly appreciate it! I hope all is going well for you and hope you you had a great weekend.🤗
Another stormy weekend alas, but managed to do a bit in the polytunnel - and luckily it didn't blow away.
Nice scores! I bet those stones will look great after a little bit of cleaning.
You are absolutely right. We already cleaned up a few for the wall that we were rebuilding....and they do look sharp!...very aged, as the were cut from a quarry probably close to 100 years ago.
one day maybe try TYRES compacted with dirt, layered like bricks, and plastered over, They last forever it seems l-) good luck hope the walls holds for some time!
p.s. please do feel free to subscribe and post to the ecoTrain community, we give nice support and love these kinds of posts! xx

Thanks for swinging through my dear friend. I had never heard of your TRYES idea, but will definitely be looking into that. I joined the homesteaders community...now that we have real communities.😁 Now i will have a new one to join as well. Thank you sooooo much. You get hugs...🤗🤗
