Hello we are Tom and Ann and we are starting Legacy Lane Homestead, Where to begin? This journey my family is on didn’t just start today with me quitting my job out of the blue, packing up our stuff, and hitting the road. It has been moving this way for years, 8 to be specific. It started with a conversation with my wife early in our marriage just after our first son was born. She asked me, “What is it you want to do next? How do you want our son to grow up?”
I said, referencing Pinky and the Brain, a cartoon from the 90’s. “I want to do what we do every day Pinky, take over the world”.
The reality is I wanted something much harder than that. I wanted a simpler life, one that would let me spend time loving my wife, teaching my children, being with them, growing with them, providing them with the things that can last a lifetime: a legacy. So many of us wake up to our 9 to 5 jobs (or in my case 48hr jobs) working for someone else. Time that is spent doing something for someone else in return for money. We hand our kids off to a system with good intentions and rely on them to teach what the world is about. We give our families snap shots of our time with sporadic vacation memories, sporting events, and weekend cookouts.
I just think there is something more, something real, something deeper.
So, with faith, love and time my family and I will start this adventure, one that I’m sure will be filled with its ups and downs; trials and tribulations.
So you’re asking, “What is this great thing you are going to do that will allow you to spend all this time with your family and not have to work for “the man”?”
We are going to homestead. You know, the American dream, a new beginning, what our history books are ladened with, families trudging miles to the middle of nowhere to forge out something of their own. So please join my family and me on our journey.

Looking forward to following your adventures. Do you have property already or are you not that far along in the trip?
We are super new in the process. Right now we are honing our skills while we look for more land. Thanks for the encouragement! We are spending more time working on our skills than writing about them, but we are working on that, too.
