Hatching update : Eggs and more eggs

in #homesteading7 years ago

We have about 5 days left on the incubator, 5 ducks and a goose.

We also have been seeing turkey eggs. My Peep has had her eggs ransacked

So I moved a dog kennel to the place she has been seen loitering.

Earlier in the week she was helping me sharpen saws and cut wood in the same area.

She must love the smell and fresh saw dust.
Hopefully with the kennel over there she will nest in it.
We lost a hen to the elements a few years ago. She died trying to hatch eggs. We saved the other hen, but she was very frail. We still have the hen too. Last year and this one it seems that she is nesting in the coop 💗 Yay! You can see her eggs below with our duck and chicken eggs.

The big white ones are from our peaking duck Dot, they are huge! The rest are from magpies and khaki-campbells. Magpies sometimes have grey eggs that look very dirty. The Brown ones are chicken. The very large speckled and pointy ones are turkey eggs.

These ones got washed and will be eaten. But in a few days, after the eggs hatch in the incubator, we will put in turkey eggs and more duck.

Then I get to use my new brooder box.
Yay!

Hope you all are well, Spring is finally starting to show.
Puddles and mud, along with massive pot holes!

Nice work! Hatching is always exciting! I hope it all goes well!

It is, thanks!

Still snow on the ground.. Damn!
I didn't realise Magpie eggs were so big.

Yeah still snow. The Peaking eggs are huge almost like a small goose egg. Magpie duck eggs are the size of a normal duck egg, but sometimes grey.

I have two different coins for size comparison, two quarter and two 50 cent pieces.

Turkey eggs are always strange looking, but if you have some fertile ones, they're fun to hatch.

I should have some fertile ones, we are starting to set them to the side for the next hatching 😊
