- Dig up a few mature amaryllis bulbs.
- Cut off all the leaves.
- Cut off some of the roots leaving about 2- 2 1/2".
- Wash the bulb to remove the dirt.
- Dry it well, to remove any moisture.
- Put the bulbs in a cool dry place, like in a corner in your kitchen counter for about one week. One week later, go to step #7.
- Put water in a glass, not quite too full.( use a clear container so it will be easy to see the roots).
Put the amaryllis bulb in the glass with water. Make sure only the roots touches the water. - Check water level regularly. Add water if needed. Or change water if needed.
- The amaryllis bulb will start sprouting, and most of the time, when it sprouts, it is the bud that will sprout first before the leaves. Put the glass with bulb close to a window.
- After the amaryllis finished blooming, the bulb can be planted back in a flower pot or in the garden.

First I recommend you for a good post with nice images. This is a very educative tutorial on growing amaryllis bloom.
What will happen if you plant it without following the steps? Is there any fertilizer one can use when planting?
Is that a two lovers
Yes ☺️ Thanks
This is a great thing, I learned something, and if I do know the planting of flowers

can u tell me what is the scientific name of the flower?
interesting post @arjane!! i want to try it...
Great Post!
Thanks for the hint. One of the problems with amaryllis bought from department stores is that the care instructions don't have this information, so the bulbs only bloom once. The next year there are only leaves. That means many people who don't know this information throw them out, and buy a new plant. Good business for the stores, but wasteful.

I do love those flowers and thanks for the tips. Sharing to a page of mine.
I had no idea I could force an amaryllis to bloom. I have always just planted them in dirt and waited for what happens. Your pictures say it all. So beautiful and I love that you have so many.
