Joel Salatin from Polyface Farms released a statement on their Facebook page today and I thought it very worthy of sharing far and wide. The rest of this post in italics below Joel's picture is the full statement from their Facebook page.

The enemy used to be Monsanto--easy bad guys. Our new enemy is industrial organics, available at your local Wal-Mart and other supermarkets. As if labels are not confusing enough, now we have lots of evidence suggesting that fake organics are entering the U.S., most of which are destined for your friendly organic livestock operation down the road. And now that Amazon has purchased Whole Foods, you can be sure things will continue to degenerate.
When people routinely ask me why Polyface does not participate in the government organic certification program, this is why. From day one of the program, I asked people: "Why would you think the entity that has discredited organics forever, that told us to abandon butter and lard and eat hydrogenated vegetable oil, that told us to feed dead cows to cows, that put Twinkies and Cocoa Puffs on the foundation of the 1979 Food Pyramid--why in the world would you trust these people to protect organic?"
Dear folks, anyone who thinks buying organic at the supermarket is anywhere near equivalent to buying pastured local GMO-free from your local farmer--especially Polyface--is simply not thinking this through. Nobody hates this new playing field more than I do. Our family has been a fan of the word "organic" ever since J.I. Rodale coined it in the late 1940s and my grandfather became a charter subscriber to Organic Gardening and Farming Magazine in 1949.
These fake organic feed grains being imported are going where? To chickens, beef, hogs, and turkeys from large organic certified outfits. It's a crazy labyrinth of murkiness. It's time to fire these scofflaws.
Times change, and once the government owned the word, it's become adulterated, obfuscated, and a sham. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for crying out loud, someone has to proclaim loud and clear that the government, industrial organic program is not honest, ecological, or fair.
Please read the report below from my friends at Cornucopia to get more detail. I will fight for honest speech and honest practice. Remember, in a day of opaqueness, Polyface invites anyone from anywhere on the planet to visit anytime and go anywhere on the farm unannounced. That's our commitment to transparency; ask ANY industrial organic supplier at the supermarket if that's their policy. It won't be. Hang in there; the water's murky these days. Polyface intends to offer clear water; come on in; it's warm.

If all goes well, I should be moved to Arkansas by this time next week.
He sure says it like it is. Thank goodness for people like him. That is why we do our best to grow our own veges.
When you closing the deal my friend? You can't spend another winter up there. Arkansas is waiting and so are the fish! Lol! 🐓🐓
I've listened to just about every talk he has given that I could find on YouTube, I think he's a great speaker. I do think more people are starting to listen to him and others like him and hopefully these labels will start to mean something again. Yup, growing your own is the best way to know what you eating.
The office person is supposed to be back Monday and will get around to my buyer's application Monday or Tuesday. Then a quick trip to the County Treasurer and I should be good to go and the fun will begin. Thanks, I really look forward to some fishing on a cool fall morning, its been years some I've enjoyed that.
Great news. Let us know when you get to your new home. 🐓🐓
Just realized you put that at the end of your post. Wahoo! 🐓🐓
Salatin has his head on squarely! He's been fighting this battle since the 80's, AND WINNING!
I've learned so much from him, he has definitely changed my perspective on many things. Thanks, he sure has fought the good fight and he's not even close to done yet I'd bet.
Yup, organic vs. conventional is definitely a false dichotomy. Both have vested interests in swaying you against the other :)

I think Joel touched on the one thing that we can look to that is better than these labels; transparency. That policy seems like a no-brainer for me when it comes to our food. Maybe more food producers will follow his lead on that and help us all out. Those nice pictures on the products in the grocery store are rarely accurate.
Thanks, there are certainly more than two ways to categorize food, you are absolutely right.
Yes, agreed. I also like the idea of "More-ganic" or "Beyond organic." No -icides > *
Great post dude. He is very right. If it was about organic food why do they charge so much for a label? If you are growing your own food organic thats all that matters. Thanks for sharing as always dude.
You got that right. Some, Wal-mart and Whole Foods, have started to care more about having that organic label on there so they can charge a lot more, than they care about actually using organic production methods. Sad. Thanks for the comment!
It quite the war going on isn't it? If they aren't winning one way, they'll use subterfuge to try and win another way.
So true, they're relentless. It will catch up to them eventually if they keep getting exposed.
Let's hope so.
I'm a big fan of Joel Salatin. There aren't many "celebrities" that I would go out of my way to shake hands with, but this dude and Mike Rowe are 2 of them. RESTEEMED!
Thank you. I'm the same way. I'd just want to thank him if nothing else.

Yeah, Fortunately when I go to get my raw milk ..i see the grass they are eating! will be doing a post shortly regarding that. I could not agree more. Have followed him for some time as well. I trust nothing in the stores! I do not eat grains much myself but for those that do it is a real problem...Our only meat is our own..we are very blessed. They do not even get an ear tag :) Being in Florida with year round grass also helps...
Hope to see your next post from Arkansas !!!
Melissa
