These past two days have been the first of the last 10 days that the sun is actually out here in central KY. We have had a stretch of rainy days. We are taking advantage of the sun and having some hay delivered to the farm.
We usually go through about 450 or so round bales of hay a year. This year however we have kept a lot more animals through the winter. More animals equals more hay requirements. Even though this farmer has a Master’s degree in accounting he sometimes makes mistakes figuring how much hay the animals will eat. These last two days we have had 117 4x5 round bales of hay delivered. They are trucked in here on gooseneck trailers. This hay actually came from about 42 miles away. We got a great deal on it and we have some super great guys who pick up and deliver the hay for us.
One thing I have been so amazed at with farming/homesteading is the great relationships that you make. Our hay hauler is a young man who recently got married. He is an honest, hard working guy who is trying to support his family. We have developed a good friendship and he helps to find top quality hay for our livestock. We have made many friendships in our homesteading journey.
Hopefully this hay will get us through until the grass starts growing again. Currently we are feeding seven bales a day, but we have another group of steers ready to go to the auction this week so that will cut down on our hay consumption. The goats are always happy to see new hay in their pen.
Usually we have the hay delivered right out into the field where we will be feeding it. But due to the rain the trucks cannot get around in the field. It is road side unloading for us. That means that I will have to haul the hay back with the tractor. Never a dull moment here on the homestead. Hope you all have a wonderful day. I need to get back to moving some hay!!

We have had SO much rain here too, in coastal New England. We finally got a break yesterday and today we are fog bound and damp again. Oh, well,good for me as I can get more seedlings started in doors.

We currently have 102 mama cows, 96 calves and 82 mama goats
That is A LOT of mouths to feed!!!!
THAT is a whole lotta hay! WOW! I never raised a large number of livestock, just chickens, and I can't imagine having all that hay!
