Red Rangers vs Cornish Cross Part 2 - Which is the better Meat Chicken?

Part 2 of our Red Ranger versus the Cornish Cross Meat Chicken Series.
In this video we are around week 7, & the cornish has really pulled away from the red ranger chicken in size a pretty good bit now. The first 3 to 4 weeks, they were fairly close in size, but now the cornish broiler has really passed by the red ranger broiler.

As for their health, not much difference really. Both seem to be healthy, with no issues at this point.

One of the main differences between the red ranger chicken and the cornish cross chicken, is their activity level. The Red Ranger chicken is much more active than the cornish cross broiler. The cornishes seem to sit down a lot, while the red ranger is running around, dust bathing, & chasing each other. Even the other day when it was raining, there were around 6 or 7 red ranger chickens running around, but only 2 cornishes outside. The rest of the cornishes were inside the chicken tractor, just kinda sitting around and eating their feed.

We also weighed a few at week 7, and as you see in the video, the cornish is almost double in size compared to the red ranger. Most definitely a noticeable difference in the breast.

So right now, size wise, the cornish has really passed the red ranger.... we still have a couple weeks on the cornishes, & I am guessing around 4 weeks on the red rangers, & my honest opinion at this point is this. Unless the red ranger has a much better flavor than the cornish rock, I really do not see how or why you would choose the red ranger over the cornish, but again we are week 7, & still have a few weeks left.....so stay tuned for the next red ranger vs the cornish cross episode! To Be Continued.......

What's the difference between the Red Ranger and the Freedom Ranger? We've been looking at getting Freedom Rangers due to the rave reviews from Off Grid With Doug & Stacy on YouTube. The Cornish Cross are almost creepy to me with how fast they grow.

I almost didn’t watch the video. Gee, would I have missed a serious treat…very informational AND entertaining!

Now, am I to believe that you are speaking of the Cornish HEN?????

The commercial versions are so small that they’re usually sold in a twin pack.

These are some very healthy-looking chickens.

Of course, free-range food really tastes so much better than commercial.

Thanks for sharing this post!

Btw, you should make a copy of the YouTube version and upload to D-tube for tips.

Thanks, again!

Peace.
