It was a pretty normal morning here on the Daddykirbs Farm. I was up and ready with my Yeti mug full of hot coffee ready for my 45 minute commute to work. After leaving the farm and getting several miles down the road my wife @findingjoy called frantic...
"Come Back Home! The HORSES ARE GONE!"
What! The horses are gone? How is that possible?
We have two gates: one on the horse area and one on the front of the farm. Somehow both were wide open this morning and the horses were nowhere to be found. I turned my truck around and scooted back home as quick as I could.
In the past when Maggie, our mare, had gotten out she had always headed the same direction to a particular neighbors property. They also have horses. I drove there first... knocked on their door (waking them up) and asked if I could look around their farm for our horses. Of course, they said yes. The husband even came out in his pajamas to help out and to chat with me about the situation.
While I was out doing what I could, Mamakirbs was in the house calling the neighbors directly adjacent to us. She said "We lost our horses!". The neighbor their calmly said "They are in my yard. I didn't know who they belonged to".
Wow, all that energy for a few minutes got us all riled up.
My daugther, @maggiegrace yelled over to me while I was still talking to pajama man neighbor "Hey dad! They are over here!". My flannel clad buddy simply stated "fantastic" and went back inside. I backed my truck up to help my daughter put some ropes on the horses to get them back home.
Here's the walk of shame back to the house.
Life on the Daddykirbs Farm is always a thrill with never a dull moment!
... and then I got stuck behind this on my commute to work.
This would frighten me to all end. I’m glad the horses are safe and the family can go back to normalcy. Have a great day take a deep breath and drink some coffee ☕️!
Oh I'm sucking down the coffee now at work LOL
Oh wait I need to clean up my coffee mug and put a certain sticker on it!! I guess I really deserve a cup of coffee now!
Yes you do! (and make a steemit post about your new swag! LOL)
That's a crazy long commute. Too bad your internet is too slow to work from home. Glad you were able to find those sneaky horses. Might want to put GPS on them next time ;)
GPS collars would be a nice idea! :) Someday I'll find a way to not make that commute anymore.... someday.
SO glad the horses were found quickly and safe!
And yes, I can relate to the traffic you endured... Never a day passes when I go out (which isn't too often) and get behind a tractor. Anyone driving a John Deere and Case are my traffic jam issues here.
It's not that uncommon for tractors to be in traffic out where I live, but I still find it kinda funny. :)
When my husband and I moved here, I was used to it. (also used to cows in the road).
But my husband would be like "Huh? What the heck?!" I just smile and say yup... that's life.
Yup!
time to attach a GPS unit to some horses ;)
Yup! LOL
Always scary! We have 2 sets of gates as well and still worry about this happening (and we're on a fairly busy road). I know someone who's horses all got hit due someone purposely opening all the gates on their property. So glad this ended well.
Luckily we live on a dead end country road with very little traffic!
You need to better secure your horses!! At least you don't live close to a high traffic road, i've seen car crashes done by horses and let me tell you it's not pretty for the horse, the car protected the people though
Yes of course. This is a learning experience for us. The horses have never gotten out before.
LOL horses ALWAYS get out. Just enough to keep you on your toes! I'm glad you've got fabulous neighbors and that everyone got home safely!
Yeah me too! There are quite a few horses on our dead end road so it's not "weird" to see them. I'm glad the neighbors were cool about it too :)
I'm glad you found them, and that they were safe.
I love all the solar panels, btw!! It looks like you have a pretty awesome farm.
Thank you. We have panels on the barn now too :)
Super cool! Are you totally off grid?
Any animal can create havoc, yours this time was just the horses ;-)
Glad they were found and the day went as normal as can be the rest of the day...
