A couple of months ago I shared a post about CHARACTERS OF THE FARM - Episode 6 - The Tortoises. These big guys are such a joy on the farm. Visitors to the Daddykirbs Farm love seeing the tortoises up close. Kids love to touch and even sometimes (if they are small kids) can sit on the tortoises for a slow ride!

These large torts love to graze on pasture and roam around. We try to give them as much time on grass as we can, but this does present one BIG challenge. When it's time to get them back to their pen area it's hard because they are large and heavy. They are very awkward to try to carry. Coco, the largest male we have, is well over 100 pounds and still growing!
We finally found a solution to our challenge!
This large wheel barrel works fantastically. When it's tipped up toward the front it lays flat on the ground. This allows for us to lift the rear end of the tortoise up and scoot the barrel right up under him. The leverage is perfect for lifting him slowly so he doesn't slide into the barrel too fast.
The large never-flat tires give this device a huge advantage for easy movement and avoiding those pesky Mesquite thorns! Here you can see @findingjoy easily transporting CoCo the large tortoise to his enclosure.
This was not a cheap wheel barrel, but it feels worth every penny when we don't have to try to lift this big guy up onto the back of a golf cart or painstakingly slowly guide him back to his pen.
Work smarter not harder and that is a great solution for moving Coco!

This creature is very beautiful. This photo shared this very beautiful. This is an awesome photo and you're really a good photographer.
Wow thats a big one :) Very cute animals! Now I am sure the Tortoise will enjoy that and wait for you everyday to give him a ride :) Resteemed!
Oh my goodness, they are so cute. I might need to do a piece with a tortoise in now. Do you live somewhere warm so they can stay out year round? Our local farm has a sulcatta (I'm assuming that is what these are?) and he has to be in the heated greenhouse in our cold winters. SO cute.
I'm in Texas. Most of the year he's fine, but on the cold days he has a heated box that he goes into.
Excellent solution to a "BIG" issue!
Haha cool!
Love the tortoise! He looks huge and heavy, haha!
Very cool way to transport them!
