RE: Gingseng planting: Farm the forest floor

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

You know, I really didn't know much about this 'gem' until my husband started watching a couple of Appalachia TV shows about digging it up and how much ginseng goes for.

I admit, I watched a couple of episodes and thought... "really? That much? People will pay that much?"

Keep us up to date on the progress!

PS- I was just thinking about a seed swap!!

I tried without success on the original works blogroll; hope this will work.

I'm unclear on how this thing works...

LOL, I posted on their blog; they asked to post elsewhere. I did here!

yeah it's pretty wild how much ginseng sells for, especially with certain physical features present. We haven't harvested for sale yet...still 3 years to go. I am planning to do some tinctures with some of the seedlings I thin out and potting some up for sale to nurseries and herb festivals too. I'm definitely game for swapping plants and seeds!

I think i heard the higher selling prices come from roots that are about 10 years old.
Awesome!!! Ginseng tincture!!

I was thinking about seed swaps and how it would work. We should chat

yes! We are hoping we can sell in a few years. We are going to start selectively harvest at 6 years (3 years from now) and leave some up to 10+ years. Kids college fund. lol

I'm still new to this steemit thing (3rd day in!)...how does chat work here? I don't see the option anywhere?

upper right hand corner is three lines, click on that and look for CHAT
