Tea Tree Oil: Uses & Benefits

Tea Tree Oil

In my quest for more natural remedies, I came across a website that gives some great information about tea tree oil and how to use it for every day health and beauty care. So after reading about the shampoo and deep hair moisturizer treatment, the psoriasis, fungus issues, acne solutions and bug bite remedy; it got me thinking.

How else can I use tea tree oil?

Well, I am going to find out soon, because... yes, I bought some!

How I Plan On Using Tea Tree Oil

  • Sensitive skin- my husband has sensitive skin and breaks out in odd rashes with pimply or boil like bumps, so I am thinking about adding some tea tree oil to my next batch of homemade soap.
Since it has anti-fungal and fights bacterial infections, I think this may aid his skin problem.
I can also make a cream mixture out of the tea tree oil and coconut oil and use as a paste when he has these weird break-outs for an immediate relief. I read that if you mix one drop of tea tree oil with one teaspoon coconut oil, apply a directly to the cut or area it can help heal faster than Neosporin. So I'm willing... if he's willing.
  • Flu season coughs and colds- since tea tree oil is known for its power as a nasal decongestant, I found a cool recipe for what I see as homemade Vapor Rub.
"Simply mix 3 drops of tea tree oil with 2 drops of peppermint and 2 drops of eucalyptus oil with 2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil. Pour into a lip balm tin and allow it to cool. Apply sparingly under nose when needed."
  • Achy muscles in a hot bath- NOW this is something both myself and my husband can benefit from. A hot, luxurious bath with Epsom salt and some tea tree oil to soothe away the soreness of the day.

Everyday Roots has so many more ideas, but I wanted to share the ones I knew we would use.

Concerns

The only concern that I noticed in my research was that some people who have sensitive skin may notice a rash develop. Tea Tree Oil can be a tad strong, so when using it's best to start with a smaller dose/amount to see how your skin will react.

Very cool post. Quick and informative. I've recently been looking at replacing my hygiene products with more natural alternatives. I'll certainly be looking into tea tree oil more. I've also heard argan is good for you, any experience?

NO experience with argan oil but I did see some at the store today and I actually had the bottle in hand.... but I like to see the benefits first before I buy for use.
Now you got me thinking... going to have to read more about it.

I especially like the homemade vapor rub recipe. Now I wish someone would get a cold so I can make it- lol
Oops! Did I just jinx my household?

If I end up trying argan oil out I'll create a post!

Love tea tree oil and I buy it in a handy little tube that's rather like a lipgloss bottle with something to put the tea tree oil on with. Great for the odd spot or two and /or rash. Perhaps it's the version I buy (in London) that is gentler. Thanks for the post homsteader!

Now that is a real cool idea! I like that.
Would be nice to have in my bag or purse for on-the-go situations

Oh yes my dear I've been mixing tea-tree & Epsom salts for years, friends always ask for it as gifts in cute little jars w/ benefits on tag ...great post

That's great! So it works. Now I'm excited to try it

I add a few drops in my kids shampoo to help ward off Head Lice at school. My daughter had it once a few years back .....NEVER...AGAIN. LOL Thanks for sharing

Yes I read that tea tree oil is good for lice.
Yeah, my kids brought home lice years ago and it was AWFUL!!! agreed... don't want it ever again either!

Tea tree oil is really good for external skin problems, especially fungal infections. It works well for getting rid of toe nail fungus and athelete's foot.

I am so excited to have some to use. Now if I can just get my husband to have a skin outbreak so I can test it! Yeah, I know... kinda sadistic!
