Front pasture - mud and snow
On Saturday morning it wasn’t raining too hard when my brother and I made the trip to the dump. After getting a load of dishes in the dishwasher, I sat down for a while.
The water had percolated down through the soil and the area around the wood stacks wasn’t a pond. But the whole area is a sea of mud, up to 4” deep.
The line up: 4 male goldfinches and a sparrow
Mid morning I got a call from the doctor’s office. They asked for my husband. I asked why and it became apparent they had never marked him deceased. I had to tell them he died on Christmas 2020. Well, that’s all it took, this time.
You just never know how or when it’s going to hit you. Mostly I was angry that it took them 3½ years to check up on a patient in end stage liver disease. Particularly one that had been complaining about a lot of back pain.
It triggered a lot of anger from that time, when no one seemed to care about him and the pain.
The line up: sparrow, purple finch, male goldfinch, purple finch, male goldfinch
So I buried myself in movies all afternoon. It continued to rain until mid afternoon.
The sun even made a few appearances.

But the rain returned and it was coming down pretty good when I went out for chores at 4PM.
In the middle pasture the snow had retreated to the south third and ponds were forming in the east yard.
The wind had blown one of the tarps loose in the Small garden and it was filling with water. Ponds had formed around its perimeter too. The rain was supposed to continue until just before midnight.
But the cold threatened earlier in the day for the night has again been pushed off to Sunday. I suppose I should get out there and put the tarps to rights before things freeze solid.
I also hope to get the last of the window candles down, clean up the kitchen, and water the house plants. I wonder how far I will actually get…
Oh! So much rain! Hope it won’t get too cold for freezing up.
Those birds are so lucky to have available food around the clock.
Hope you could get more things done than you expected.
