Sunday morning was bright sun and wicked windy. The stoves were going well, but I could not get the house warm all morning because of the strong wind hammering at the west side of the house. The sun didn’t even help.
It was odd going up to feed the cats at 6:15AM but if I had waited until 7:15 they would have been mad. The sun coming in through the east window lights up the whole addition.
I was supposed to be doing tax stuff, but I didn’t want to. Somehow or other I got started with the amendment inventory I’d left on the dining table and one thing led to another.
I copied it over as I’d made such a mess of the first one. Then I started to figure out what I needed for garden amendments and realized I’d not done the work of figuring out the mix for each of the 3 gardens. Without that, I wouldn’t know what each one needed and whether I had enough material to make it.
So I worked up the mixes for the Big garden, the Small garden, the New Herb garden, and the Little trees. Then I put this info into the inventory and found out what I needed.
I was pleased to discover I didn’t need all that much stuff, considering I’d not bought much of anything last year. I got an order into Organic Growers Supply for basalt (for paramagnetic material for the gardens) and humic acid for the Little trees’ mixes.
I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find humates for all the gardens that I could afford and failing. The shipping is a killer. I will try our local coop and see if they are carrying that item, along with the normal stuff I get from them.
I quit about 2PM and found a couple of lectures by John Kempf of Advancing Eco Agriculture. He has been one of the greatest influences on how I garden over the years. This was one of the lectures he gave at the 2021 Soil & Nutrition Conference (click source link). He is Amish so there’s never video of him, but his slide shows are often included.
On Monday I have to finish working up the amendment orders, do laundry, wash the kitchen floor, and the contractor comes at 3PM.
Busy as ever @goldenoakfarm! How I remember the daylight savings adjustments. Every country I have lived in has it. Except here in SA!
Boy are you lucky then!
