On Tuesday morning I got a post up and a shower, and then got a load in the dishwasher. I finally finished the bills/budget too! As I was pulling up shades, I noticed the yellow primrose was dying. It had been missed in the feeding last week.
So I got the scissors and cut away the dead, in hopes it would come back. Then under it I noticed the pineapple had dead ends needing trimmed so I did that. Next to it, the mystery plant (I’ve never found out what it is) was in serious need of cleaning up, so I did that.
My helper friend arrived at 9:30AM and I sent him on errands. When I finished the plants, he had returned and I got him started in the hall.
He finished the bookcase and then cleaned everything in this area except the floor. I had gone to the attic to get out the candles needing repair. Then I went to the store room and tore that apart looking for the spare candles, just in case. But they were buried too deeply in there, so no luck.
Repair projects
Next we went down into the cellar and started cleaning out the freezer room. It was a disaster with the big bags and wood on floor.
We took the bags of bark, etc and dumped them over the bank. Then I folded and stuffed all the bags into one bag and we loaded it in the car and took it to the barn.
We picked the good wood out of the debris on the floor, moved the bags of good stuff to one side and my helper swept it up. Then we took all the stuff that didn’t belong down there out and put it way. Now I can walk down there without fear of falling.
He left when we finished and I ate lunch and rested until my contractor arrived mid afternoon. Just before he did, I went and got the mail.
My aunt had found very old Christmas cards sent by my great grandfather. She had sent them to my sister and she had sent them onto me. I hope to get them assembled in a collage with protective glass and hang them up during Christmas next year.
The contractor showed me how to wire the first candle and we got it working. So I set to work on the other 6.
While I was doing that, he took a look at the washer which has begun making a squealing noise at the beginning of the spin cycle. That had been the one place it worked perfectly. He couldn’t find the reason and hadn’t brought tools. So he will tackle it on his next trip over.
He left at 5PM and I got the shades pulled and the fire in the wood stove going again. I got some supper and watched a movie before getting the masonry heater going and heading to bed around 9PM.
On Wednesday I have exercise class. I hope to get to the recycling box and get the shredding done. Another very cold and windy day, but at least it’s sunny.
You mean the Christmas cards sent to your aunt by your great grandfather is still in her possession? That's quite impressive.
No these were sent to family members and business associates before she was born.
Aww... That's was so lovely and so thoughtful of them.
You spent a lot of time cleaning today, that's good. Everyone should work and stay busy.
Wow! You still keep very old family cards! These must be over one hundred years old! Your house is getting really cleaned up and organised!
I am a 4th generation pack rat from both sides of the family….

Conservation of old Christmas cards is so sweet, help you remind and keep some memories of who's not here anymore
I can see you are a hard worker. You love Working around the house and making sure everything is in order. That's very good.
I love those cards! Those cards are vintage, and actually, yes, the right decision you have taken to have them encased in glasses and kept for generations to come, just as you were able to see these ones after some generations.
