On Wednesday morning I got the post up, the kitchen cleaned up, made a cup of tea because it was only 60F in the house, and sat down to find the information I was sure I had somewhere on my computer about the old cookstove. I need a new burner.
My #2 intern arrived at 7:15AM and I had not found the info yet. So we looked over the list for the day and decided to do the garlic first. It wasn’t curing well in the woodshed, probably due to the extremely high humidity levels, so I was moving it to the spare bedroom on the second floor of the house.
I’d had my helper friend put up hooks and a rope to hang it from, asking him to make sure he hit studs with the hooks. Well… we had half of them hung up and the trim pulled out of the wall. He’d not hit a stud on either end. Sigh…
So we got our tools and got both hooks into studs really well and finally got the garlic hung up. We cleaned up the mess and headed down to start the next job.
First we went to the Small garden and got the cukes and squash. Then we headed over to the Big garden for beets. I got side tracked by artichokes, and then tomatoes. Then I got sidetracked pulling late blight leaves off the tomatoes.
I finally made it to the beets which should have been harvested weeks ago. They were huge.
I had to empty the dishwasher and my #2 intern washed up the produce.
Then I started the beets and she watered the house plants.

When she finished the watering, she decanted the sauerkraut into quart jars with new weights. There was about 1 cup left over. They all went into the fridge.
I had gotten the water started to blanch the beet greens and we got those done and in the freezer, only ⅓ of a pint.
We still had 45 minutes left so we headed outside to finish the mulch raking job.
There were sprouts at the base of the Kousa dogwood I wanted to remove, so I went to get shears and my #2 intern waited under the tree. We got it all pruned and headed over to the Little Trees II. There was some weeding needing done so we worked on that. I also pruned the comfrey back into the bed and took off the dead ones.
We hadn’t finished when the time was up. She went home with a bag of cucumbers and was supposed to take a bag of basil but we forgot to pick it. I had some lunch and cleaned up the kitchen. Then I continued looking for the stove info and never found it.
I didn’t do much all the rest of the afternoon. It was a beautiful day, but I was pretty tired.
On Thursday my helper friend comes at noon. He will have to go pick up the weedwacker, which is repaired. Then we will harvest onions and get them braided (I hope) and hung up to cure in the woodshed.
I’m not sure what I will do with them if I can’t braid them. I used to lay them out on the big picnic table to dry down a bit for braiding… We will see…
Lots of big tomatoes and beets. It’s harvesting to time for you this week. We have too much water flowing from the north so the river is at a critical point. Some water started leaking in to the pipes along the riverfront.
Some banana trees are flooded almost one meter today.
Floods are scary! When I see photos of water around houses, I'm glad , knock wood, it doesn't happen here.
Yup! Flooding from rain water running down mountains into the valley full of houses is quite traumatic for me! Luckily we don’t live near mountains. But the river flooding could give us a panic as it means several dams upstream in Laos and China have been dumping rainwater from their dams!
I can now understand why you really work so hard, to harvest so much and then store for the Winter. A very beautiful strategy and the harvest is coming in gradually.

Yay! Another full day preserving the harvest. ♥
Wow. What a bountiful harvest, the beets looks very fresh and for the tomatoes very red and fresh too.
Your farm produce always look fresh
I love how this looks
It’s nice
It's so beautiful reaping, after you have laboured. The tomatoes and others are a delight to look upon.
I’m amazed by your plants
They look very fresh and really good
Nice one!
You are really hardworking and diligent because you are not always tired
I’m tired from when I get up until I quit. Then I’m exhausted for the rest of the day.
Hope you always have quality time to always rest as it is really important
