On Monday morning it was cold and gloomy outside. I kept the fire going in the wood stove. I didn’t get up until 5AM and got the post up for the day while listening to beeping. I was not feeling very good at all, just exhausted and again listless. I didn’t even care there were so many lists of stuff to do…
Around 8AM I had the bright idea to make the phone call to Chloe the Escalations person standing next to the beeping inverter. She wasn’t in, but it would be recorded. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier, but you know, brainfog…
About 10AM I got enough gumption to start the laundry. But outside of that, I really just dozed in my chair.
Around 2PM my son shouts, “There’s SunRun trucks at the barn!” and sure enough, there were two of them. I was still in my pajamas, so I ran to get some clothes on, well, walked fast. So I forgot to get a photo.
By the time I was dressed they had come to the house. There were 3 guys from the trucks. So we went downstairs and the beeping of course, had stopped. Just as I said of course, now it won’t go, it started again.
The little room the inverter is in measures roughly 6’ x 9’ and has 2 cement walls, 2 freezers, and a full size fridge in it. All electrical outlets are mounted on the walls about shoulder height. The sound just reverberated throughout.
Also bear in mind I am half deaf…and not from the beeping…
The guys said the inverter appeared fine and that they didn’t think the beeping was coming from it. They thought it was behind the fridge. But I knew there were no outlets there or anything else. So they were pulling stuff out trying to get behind the fridge.
I looked along the surge protector that ran from the outlet down behind the freezer and fridge it powered. There was something else in the end of it so I pulled it up.
Back either when my husband was dying or had just died, the water heater had gone on the fritz. Tom had been trying to repair it and in the meantime insisted he install a carbon monoxide monitor near the floor. Out of sight, out of mind all these years later, the battery had died.
That’s what we’d been listening to for a whole week. This is the inverter with all lights lit. The red one is merely the unit sending info. So all 3 are normal I was told.
And because it took them 5 minutes to find the beeping, they said they would put down no charge for the visit. Whew! I thanked them profusely!
That ordeal is finally over. If my husband had been here, it would have ended on Tuesday, or never started. He would have fixed the water heater all those years ago, and probably never installed the monitor.
I had no sooner sat down from all of that, when the hay mulch guy called and said he was coming with the next to last load of hay. So I went out and unloaded the truck with him.
He said he had 10 bales left in his barn but wanted to keep them for hay rides during the Christmas tree season coming up. Then he would bring them over and put them in my barn, for free. Cool! So I was done with mulch hay coming in for a while.
I was so exhausted when he left. I had changed over the last load of laundry just before he called. And I had no idea how I was going to make a supper. I sat down for a couple hours and then got spaghetti made, real easy and totally off diet.
Then I got the fire going again and was in bed by 8PM.
On Tuesday my helper friend arrives at 9:30AM. He has errands, we need to water house plants, and I’m hoping we can finish spreading the mulch hay in the Big garden. We’ll see…
That’s a relief that there’s nothing wrong and they didn’t charge for their visit. That beeper was too well hidden!
Hope you had a good rest and recover your strength in a day.
At least you can sleep peacefully in your home now that the beeping palaver has been removed. I can't imagine how good you must feel because of that. You handled the chores well and your day was put to good use. Thanks for the update.
When you got to bed by 8:00 pm, did you sleep immediately?
That shows why you always wake up early
Pretty much, within 1/2 hour
Haha.... When someone is exhausted even doing the least work at home become a great density and stressful to you.
Oh no, the carbon monoxide beeping. That is enough to make one go mad and thank goodness they did not charge you for checking the inverter. Wow, I feel bad you had to endure that noise for so long. Rest and build your strength back up. You have been on the go intensely for quite some time now. ♥
The inverter looks small but I’m surprised that it may be working well
Nice!
I hope your troubles with the beep are solved!
