On Friday morning I didn’t get up until 7:30AM, after a bad night. I got the post up and the kitchen cleaned up and took it easy all morning. My helper friend wasn’t coming until mid afternoon.
Around 11AM I brought up as many screens from the cellar as I could and sat down to rest. I called a friend and we talked for about an hour. At 1:30PM I had some lunch and started setting up to wash screens outside.
My yard and gardens are littered with these mole holes. This one is a foot across. At some point this month I need to spread the milky spore in the gardens and yard to kill the grubs.
I got started at 2PM and did the very largest screens first. This area behind the house is a wind tunnel most times and I wanted to have the big ones finished and back in the house before the wind picked up at 3:30PM, as it does most afternoons.
My helper friend arrived shortly after I started. He rinsed the screens and carried them inside and brought more out 1 by 1, so they wouldn’t blow around, while I washed and washed. There were 43 to do. As I saved the small ones until last, it was a lot easier to wash them towards the end. They go pretty fast.
We had started by stacking the biggest ones against the armoire in the office to dry. But there wasn’t much room because of the wood stove. So we started stacking them on the back side of the armoire and ran out of room there too.
My helper thought to stack them all on the treadmill, after making a support with string. That worked for all but the single biggest one. Once all the screens were done and stacked, they got inspected.
He decided the end of the towel was a good new comfy place until I sat down in my chair to rest.
Then he had to come over and sit on my chest, his face in my face. At least he didn’t sneeze this time…
A supper of cheese omelet and more of the mesclun was followed by more M.A.S.H. At 7PM I had to pull the shades and start both fires. It’s to be in the 40’s day and night all weekend and rain, all weekend.
I have no idea what I will be doing on Saturday. There’s no shortage of things, like tending seedlings and watering them, or organizing plant notes. I’ll see how I am doing in the morning.

You are really doing a very great job in the farm I must confess
There is always something to do, Pam, especially this time of year. Washing all those screens was a huge job and you will be happy to have them installed before too many flowers are up. Yay! I see Larry is a lap kitty. I have a lap dog and she's my inspector. Have a wonderful weekend.
Larry sitting on your chest is the best helper haha. My cat won't bother doing the same when I try to rest, it doesn't like getting disturbed. The mole holes are real huge, that's spring for ya
Larry really likes you, pretty obvious feels comfortable with you
Washing of all those screens must be a very stressful one.
