Wood stove burning crop Feb 2025.jpg

On Thursday morning it started snow around 7AM as predicted. I went out at 7:30AM and filled the birdfeeders. By 10:30AM we had a good amount and it was coming down hard. So I called my helper friend and asked if he felt he should come, and we decided probably not. The driveway wasn’t plowed and wouldn’t be until my brother got home in late afternoon.

I had gotten started on the bills so I kept at that, and kept the wood stove going all morning.

I stopped for lunch and decided to finish the seed starting notes. The birds were thronging the feeders even though it was snowing.

After lunch I got started on the notes and got them checked and organized. Then I realized I’d never entered last year’s notes from the gardens. Sigh… So I went and got the thick wad of notes and got set up to start them. They have to be done before March 1, when I start writing in new notes.

My brother got home and got the driveway plowed. Knock wood, the truck has run well every time so far.

The cat and I sat and watched Call the Midwife in front of the masonry heater. I had gotten it started around 3PM as the temperature in it had dropped. I made supper and was in bed shortly by 8:45PM.

On Friday my helper friend will be here at 8AM and we will tackle the fridge. He also has errands to run. I hope to start transcribing plant notes. And it will be another day of keeping the stove going as it’s to be cloudy.

Sort:

The birds have come to eat even in the snow because their stomachs want to eat, the cat is lying down and watching, I see it lying down.

That wood stove with the sun on it is soooo gorgeous. I wish we had snow here! I'm already sick of the summer though I am enjoying the warm water. Well done on your seed organising stuff. I have a table with them all unpacked and have gone on Hive instead of sorting them as I'm too tired to bother. It won't be anywhere near as organised as you though.

Snow is pretty, but the cold really keeps me housebound for long periods. Not like I don't have plenty to do (like listening to a cat tearing around because it's not 6AM and he wants his breakfast) but trying to stay fit enough for the season to start in late March or April is really hard!

It's still snowing a lot there!

Your cat is such a pampered cat😅😅
I love that

The snow looks quite thick! Lucky birds, they wouldn’t go hungry on a very cold day. They could hardly find any insects!

The big masonry heater could keep the whole house warm. This year I had to buy a small electric heater to keep the room warm when the temperature dropped to 10-12 degree Celsius. If it ever snowed here, people will have to build a fireplace! 🙀😂

How are you guys coping with the extreme cold weather condition
