New South
My helper friend was here on Friday and he doesn’t mind the cold. It was sunny but barely 40F and windy. He said he wanted to be outside, so I sent him out to cut down all the tall stuff in the gardens around the house.
New East
He may do more of this next week, but I won’t be out in the gardens again, unless it hits the 50’s and is sunny.
Old North and North Corner gardens
West and West Herb gardens
These 2 gardens hadn’t been touched at all this year. He’d taken the tall stuff out last November and that was it.
South Herb
This one my intern and her sister helped me clean out a bit early in the summer. Otherwise it has not been touched since last November either.
New Herb – Row 1
When he finished around the house, he started on the New Herb garden. He got all of Row 1 finished.
New Herb – Row 2, tansy
He started on the tansy but ran out of time to finish it. He got it whacked back into its bed at least.
I need to figure out some way to mow down the wildflower area. It’s too thick for my rider mower. Someone who knew how to use a scythe could do it pretty well.
On Saturday my intern and my friend and I head up on Horse Mountain to the Christmas tree farm. I’m cutting my first ever live tree and my friend will be cutting her annual tree. She looks for one with wide spread, airy branches as she uses candles on hers. I want mine to be 7’ tall and really wide. They said there aren’t many like that, so I’m going early to have a selection to choose from.
We plan to leave about 9:30 and the forecast says it will just have hit freezing, 33F by then. It’s going to be cold but sunny. I’ve got to check all the lights between Friday night and the morning. I got them downstairs into the office at least.
