On Saturday morning I was up at 4:15AM and got the post up. Then I finished the parts list for the washing machine base. Cleaning up the kitchen was next. I abruptly decided to do the 2 small windows in the dining room so I set up and did them. As I was already set up, I decided to do the storm door and porch railings on the porch while I was at it.
I still have the door to inside from the back porch to do. It was nearly 10AM and I had really planned to go out to the Big garden and mulch. So I sat down after cleaning up the mess from windows for about ½ hour and was in the garden by 10:30AM.
At 10:15AM the house solar inverter resumed beeping again. I went down to check it and it now has 3 lights, 2 green and 1 red with an exclamation point. There is no one in the office until Tuesday as this is Veterans Day weekend. But I have sent a flurry of e-mails anyways.
I got one more section mulched and only had 5 bales left so I quit at noon.
That made ⅔ of the garden finished for the winter.
I called the mulch hay guy to let him know I would need 2 more loads to finish this garden and maybe have some left over for the next project.
I had run the hay out along the fence on the east and west sides. Some times leaves of hay are way too big to use as they are and need to be torn into smaller sections. I use these to fit around plants and had started doing it for the kale. But I got too tired so I just threw the leaves over by the kale to do later.
So this is what’s left and will probably get done on Tuesday when my helper friend is here again.
Once the Big garden is finished, then we clean out the New Herb garden and put down hay mulch as needed. Hopefully we finish this next week.
The inverter was still beeping when I went to bed. I had both stoves going well as it’s to drop into the low 20’s Saturday night and be cloudy on Sunday.
On Sunday I plan to rake leaves and mow them up again. There aren’t many now and I hope to get them out of more flowerbeds. It’s to be a cold cloudy day.
You are making steady progress with cleaning the windows and ready the garden for winter. Luckily we don’t have severe winter here so we have much less work. But I still prefer it much cooler so that we could work in the garden longer!

One thing I would love to ask you is how you get the time to create all your posts on Hive coupled with how much work you’ve got
I do it in the morning from 4AM until the sun comes up.
I’m sorry to ask
How big is your garden?
The Big Garden is 2610 sq. ft or 6% of an acre. The Small garden is 1080 sq. ft or under 2% of an acre. The New Herb garden is 1850 sq ft or just over 2% of an acre. This does not include the wildflower area, the 2 fruit orchards or the 21 flowerbeds. The whole yard is roughly 3/4 of an acre.
Wow
That’s quite big
You're making good progress on the mulch! That is a huge job.
Interesting to see how you prepare garden for winter!
You did a whole hell lot of chores. It's good you found strength to do the mulching after doing the work at the kitchen and porch. That means today's for resting. You did well to send the emails to the inverter company maybe it might prompt a response from them on Tuesday. Thanks for the update and happy sunday.
Mulching the whole garden isn't an easy task but I'm glad you are coping, well done.
